My light burned my face!

Don't be surprised if the bin for the Licorice Jelly Belly is empty! It's the *ONLY* bin that is often empty when I go shopping for them. I have always thought that is because it's very hard to get really good tasting licorice! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Get ready for a flood of black jelly beans since Easter is just around the corner! My DH absolutely loves black jelly beans so that is what the Easter Bunny brings him!

Licorice was my father's favorite flavor of candy. I can't stand the stuff, or even the smell. But my husband and oldest son both love the stuff. Does anybody eat Dots candy? Well, the same company puts out Crows, which are licorice in a big way. I can smell them as soon as the box is open. I always marvel that my picky son who eats such a limited range of food loves licorice and can't seem to get enough of the nasty stuff. LOL

The amount of mercury in CFLs is minute; the amount of toxic materials in LEDs is quite significant. The manufacturing process for LEDs (like all semiconductors) involves an appalling amount of toxic waste at the places where they're made.

LEDs might be a better bet in the long run but the recycling chain needs to be put in place NOW, before they are marketed on a large scale.

Bottom line: people with sunlight sensitivity are going to have to choose between health and the environment for at least the foreseeable future. I choose health and comfort. I went yesterday and bought two boxes of 8 each light bulbs for my new sewing lamp (really an old office lamp with the snake neck -- found at Goodwill). They are GE Reveal bulbs. The light is lovely, bright without glare and not yellow or pink or other colors. Just clean, pure light. I'll stock the cupboard with them in 60 watt strength and 35 watt (bedside table is now changed from cf bulb). And I'm going to put a small LED light on my machine so it shines right where I need it.

I realize you posted your problem a few weeks ago, but I want to add something. The problem could be only with the light, but there is a chance that medications may be an issue.

There are certain medications that have warnings to the effect of "Avoid prolonged exposure to natural or artificial sunlight." This warning would be issued on a little sticker on the Rx Vial. (I put that sticker on several vials every day I'm working, so it is not too unusual.) When receiving medicine, before you leave the Pharmacy, check if there are any warning labels on the vial. If not, ask for a consult with a Pharmacist and ask if there are any warnings due with that Rx. Most times, you'll get the warnings labels required, but if you NEVER get any labels, ask about that.

I too have Lupus and have had problems with lighting. Several years ago I had a similar problem. After being at a hospital for 5 days 12 hours per day during my father's surgery, the skin completely peeled off my face even with 40 sunscreen. My sister, who is an RN had never seen anything like it before or since. My home will not have the new bulbs. I can't be under them. Luckily, for the last 4 years I have been home sewing animal blankies for my Critter Comforts project, but I worry about having to go back to work some where that I would have to under fluorescent for several hours a day.

Pat, I'm very aware of medications that increase my sun sensitivity. Fortunately, I have a really wonderful pharmacy and all the folks there take good care of all of us "regulars". They not only put it on the bottle, but make sure that I'm told verbally if a Rx will make me more sun sensitive. I haven't had to deal with that much. I'm sooooooo careful to wear long sleeves, dark glasses, big brimmed hats and sunscreen that I haven't burned in quite a while. That's why I felt so "betrayed" (lol) by my Ott Lite.
