My quilt is going on public display.

I managed to get to the monthly Quilting Museum group on Tuesday. Last month was when they persuaded me to enter my Blue-and-white quilt into the Cawood Craft Show, if you remember. Whilst I was there, I mentioned that I had won the first prize. Melanie, the Education Officer was really thrilled for me and told everyone who came in, to the point I got really quite embarrassed.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, at the end of the session, she asked me if I would bring it in for her to display on the wall of the Education Room. And would I write a note to go with it?

So I have. This is an honour, I think. My quilt will be on the wall in St Stephen's Hall, York, in the home of The Quilters' Guild.

I'm pleased with my little self, if a little overhelmed.

That is FANTASTIC Nel! You should absolutely be pleased with yourself. I'll tell you though, that is a beautiful quilt, and I'm really not surprised that Melanie wants to display it. :-)

You should see it close up! Nel would say it's full of faults, but I say it maps a journey, and the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. On the wall above my head as I slept, it was stunning. And very peaceful.

Woo-hoo indeed. :)

Nel and I met when we were at Durham University, back in about 1976! She is the GMNT's godmother. I have followed this quilt from inception, inspecting and admiring as it was first pieced and later quilted. Nel is a very good seamstress, but hand quilting amazing projects seems to be her favourite stitchery.

Thanks everyone. I feel a bit calmer about it all now. As Kate says, all I see are the Arachne stitches! I remember when I started it asking why my stitches didn't pucker like they were supposed to. So most of you have been with me since its inception, too!

And it never did pucker up! But I am very proud that I get more stitches on the backside than Amy Emms. I am told that most prfessional quilters don't look at the underside of their quilts and only reckon to get 70-80% through to the other side, let alone the same length. I aim to get mine reversible, like my Great Aunt's quilts (who was a Welsh quilter from Aberdare). It means my stitiches are about 8spi, but I like to think they're fairly even.

Nel (Gadget Queen) I'm still hunting for the epitome of an etui or chaterlaine.
