Need ideas for 6 very similar fabrics

Somehow I have 5" squares of 6 different -yet similar colors of fabric. The light and dark of it are only a few shades apart. Too similar and I cant think of anything that would contrast in a good way. They are all in the "peach" hue. I think I have enough of them all for a couple quilts....any ideas of patterns that would work with these? Thanks group, counting on you. Lali in ca

How about making a/two quilt/s which *are* indeed very similar in colour value, and then really going to town with the quilting? In other words, join the squares, simply, then treat that made-up piece like a wholecloth quilt. OR put them together, simply, as above, and use the results as a background for an applique design. I always think that applique on a pieced background looks wonderful. And, as I said to someone the other day, putting them together on point adds a real sparkle. . In message , quilternow writes

use them one next to the other going along the colours to create a graded look - very subtle but effective.

Oh yes - I can see a pieces background in peach colours with copper/brown cutwork applique . . . . . . or maybe Celtic knots . . . . . . or a four patch quilt . . . . . .or as the background for an on-point medallion with more squares in the borders with a vine-and-flower applique . . . . . . . . or . . . . . . . . .

I agree with the others that using these peices as the background color. Then add the same fabrics for whatever pattern you decide. (Don't know if I'm making sense: Basically I'm trying to say: Use these as if they were the same color).

Add some blue or purple to contrast. Peach = yellow & orange, in my mind, and blue and purple are the contrasting/complimentary colors.

Dusty blue and peach: ewwwwww! 1980s-1990s "country" colors-- so "been there, done that"! Beg pardon, Pat, but this is more of the same, soft colors that just disappear into each other. Fine for Blended quilts. But for contrast, this time the color wheel is wrong.

When the colors are already similar in shade, for contrast go w/ CONTRAST! Orange. Green. Bright, deep purple. Black. You've got the softer peach colors, now go for the bright colors to make the contrast and bring out the radiance.

If you want contrast (Lali did say "contrast" ), look at the colors in these quilts via the books:

the contrasts in color, not necessarily the patterns. For something softer that works w/ those peach hues and blendsw/out the sharp contrast, look at the Mariposa/Petal Play quilt on thatpage-- lovely.

YMMV ;-D

Have fun!

Some of us still like the country look Ms. Raggy =P *smirk*

My idea is to create a set of something -- placemats or similar -- each with its own level of the color so that you have a nice gradiated (sp) look on the table when they are set out...if you have enough fabric make a whole set up -- cloth napkins, etc.

Or, if like me, you have 6 cousins make them all nearly identical gifts (unfortunately most of my cousins are male and would have my head for giving them something in peach -- for that matter, both my tomboy female cousins might as well *snicker*)

Yeah, I've got plenty of "country" in the décor, also, but it's moved way past that soft blue stage; never did get into sea-foam-green and peach, tho'. Kept the old and the unusual pieces. When I was a kid no one called it "country style"; all those mis-matched, uncoordinated, funky pieces in our "décor" were called "home." LOL

Gradated sounds good. I'd be happy to be one of your honorary cousins, Tricia.

The great thing about fabric is it's so inspiring!

While in Bed,Bath&Beyond this week, I found some soft-yellow tablecloths, extra long, for $6.42 each. I bought 6. They're going to be added to the "window treatments" 'cause I said so. W/ the white cut-work tablecloths I bought years ago (used to be living room curtains) this cheap solution will make a peaceful addition to our big bedroom.

3 sets of curtains for $42.00-- a country look, indeed. Just don't ask what country.... 8->

Cheers! Ragmop/Sandy--thinking there's plenty of ideas for those "6 very similar fabrics"

WHen you all were shopping for blue and peach back then I was trying to find green. The furniture sellers all told me that nobody wants or buys green so they don't offer it. I ended up with some custom made green love seats and never tired of them. The last few years there has been green everywhere. I like to think I led the trend but really I just buy what I like not what the mfgs. say I should like. Any color that makes you happy is ok with me. I like scrappy quilts in lots of colors! Taria

I didn't think she said "dusty" I just thought she said "blue" because it's opposite on the color wheel.

Do you really think my quilt looks "country"?

Nope, not "1980s-1990s country" because you have that CONTRAST in there. (Pat said "dusty blue".) Very pretty, M, lots of life in your quilt.

Color wheel---I've heard of it. LOL

Ragmop/Sandy -- I heard there was someone out there still doing "dusty" country colors... hey, I still have the dust... p.s. Taria, I've always had green furnishings, usually dark green, 'cause that's what I like; had dark green carpet thru'out our former home

Hi Lali, I saw a pattern in Phenomenal Fat Quarter Quilts by M'Liss Rae Hawley which really lends itself well to lots of similar color fabrics. It is called Quilt Interrupted. She made it out of Asian Fabrics with the addition of two different black prints which act as lattice work around quarter square triangles. It is a beautiful quilt and I **love** peach. I think your similar colored fabrics would look great done in this pattern.

I have it > Somehow I have 5" squares of 6 different -yet similar colors of fabric.
