new quilt and sewing room pics.

I thought it was about time to post some pics of one of my latest projects. A Nine Patch quilt that I just completed for our bedroom. I have only sewn clothes for ever, and this is my first serious quilt. I am quite happy with it and it has inspired me to try another one in a Falling Block pattern. I think that will take longer than the three weeks that it took for this one. The other pic is of my sewing room. I am a retired furniture maker and wood worker and all of the tables are cherry, maple, pine or some combination of those. I hope that this posting works out as this is the first attempt to use photobucket as a source for web posting. Let me know what you think.

Both are very nice but the sewing room is just too tidy.

First off, love the quilt - perfectly suited to the bedroom. Well done mate!

Loved the furniture in the sewingroom - did you make the chairs as well? Must show these pix to my DH who does some woodwork as a hobby. He made a storage unit for my sewingroom very successfully.

I found 2 more Pics of the sewing room. The one is a of a copy of a

19th century Shaker Sewing Cabinet that I made after saw I while visiting one of the Shaker villages in the New England. It is Cherry and Maple and is all solid wood construction with dovetail drawers and mortise and tenon construction. The other view is of some shelving units with the appropriate clutter, or what passes for it in my overly organized way of living.

Thanks John. We love shaker furniture - not much out here in the colonies. My DH would love to make a Shaker inspired piece. Bronwyn

Howdy!

Congrats on the room and the quilt. (pardon me while I splutter and choke over the caption "mild clutter" -- clutter? I don't see any clutter, mild or otherwise! )

Your furniture is beautiful, John. As a carpenter's daughter I appreciate fine woodworking, esp. when it's used on such lovely, practical projects.

Your quilt is lovely. What's next?

Love the quilt - whoever thought brown could look good?!

Like all the others though - your sewing room is a tad too clean for me, y'all need to have stray threads, a scrap bag/basket and about six projects on the go!! LOL.. By the way, where do you hide the stash????

I am starting three quilted Seat Cushions for the chairs in the sewing room and then a machine cover for the Janome 1600 that I just acquired. Then, it's on to a Tumbling Block quilt which I just picked up the fabric for today.

What's next?

Use them to tie all your new quilts!!! Or at least the ones you start making for charity! LOL. See, we really are a helpful bunch.

Photobucket worked fine, John. Thanks

Quilt and sewing room are beautiful. I love the way the colours in the quilt echo the rich wood colours - mmmm. I did marquetry for many years and love wood. P & Q is not a very long way from marquetry! Thinking about it, perhaps that's why I enjoy making miniatures?

Your sewing room must be a delight to work in. Thanks for sharing. . In message , fixedgearhead writes

Try Googling for 'confetti quilt' or some such, John. There are several ways of sandwiching small pieces of fabric - or, in your case, yarn - between two layers and then machine quilting it densely to 'make' a usable piece. The sandwich can be made from something like organza (beautiful colours of silk organza are available) or between two soluble sheets and wash the 'holding sheets' away when you have finished. My descriptions are not very good, as I have never done this; but the books are 'out there'! Someone here may well know, if you are interested. Beware - this takes miles of thread - so I understand >g<

Incidentally - I, too, buy 90% of my fabric for projects! . In message , fixedgearhead writes
