New Quilter Question

Hi and welcome to the group!

What you are describing is called a Four Patch block. Here's a couple of links to info on making them- altho both of these quilts have an alternating solid block. That would make your quilt top go together much quicker and gives the eye a resting place rather than use all four patches.

I don't use software for quilt layout, so I can't help you much there, but I did want to jump in and welcome a fellow baseball fan. (I'm a die-hard Cubs fan.)

Amen to that! Some pitching would help, too. :) This year it seems the only team that can beat the Cubs is the Cubs. Maybe Uncle Lou needs to get ejected again.

My cockatiel is a huge Card fan. It took us a few years to figure out that what he really likes is the color red and lots of crowd noise. When the Cardinals' crowd gets going, he starts singing, chirping, and dancing around, right along with them. *grin*

Tell us more about your four fabrics, what they look like. Also the size of the blocks, and the size of the quilt. I'll give it a go on my software for ya.

Oh great! It's a Raiders quilt. LOL Yeah... funny for a Braves Fan, huh! It's not for me though. The colors are solid black, solid grey, and then a white background Raiders fabric and a black background raiders fabric. The blocks are 5x5 and the quilt will be 40x60. I am going to embroider footballs and the word Raiders in the solid color blocks randomly. The will be stitched diagonally in the clocks some from top left to bottom right and some from top right to bottom left. The layout I had is the center 4 squares were all black. Inside I had a helmet with the text "Daddy's Little Raiders Buddy" stitched around it. I had black blocks at the corners and two grey blocks between the four corners. I then had checkerboard solids in fours and then the printed fabrics. I'm not sure this makes sense. I wish I knew how to attach a file here so you could see it. I just need to know how to randomly put the embroidery on there to make it look right. I don't want to put a ton of embroidery on it. I thought about all the grey being footballs and all the black being Raiders. But that doesn't look right. The block in the center looks really neat, but it screws up the outer part. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
