attention quilters in Germany

A member of my quilt guild will be in Germany the last two weeks in September. She is bringing her mother back so they can visit all the places she and family members lived and record her mother's memories of WWII.

My friend would love to visit at least one quilt shop in Germany and bring home some German fabrics for a memory quilt. Could you give her an idea of where to find quilt shops in any of the following towns? (Please forgive my spelling as I can't read her writing very well and don't have time to look them up in the atlas). If any of you live in these towns and would be willing to take her to a quilt store or meet her there I could send a package with her.

Dear Susan, unfortunately I'm a bit far from all these places . And as far as Munich is concerned, Roberta's the specialist :-))

I looked up quiltshops in a German online group:

I didn't find any more in this list, but I'll post a question in this Yahoo-Group. I'll let you know, if I get more addresses.

Probably this isn't an option, but the Carrefour European Patchwork Exhibition will be 13-16 September. This takes place south of Strasbourg, France in the Silver valley. Unfortunately the website seems to be down, the link I saved doesn't work anymore.

What I forgot to tell :-)) This exhibition must be kind of special. The quilts are shown in several small villages in churches ( free shuttle busses ) . There are many art quilts. Unfortunately I haven't been able to attend it yet and probably won't be this year.

I live outside Munich. There's a dedicated quilting store in the middle of the city, plus another great store with interesting fabrics in easy reach. But genuine German fabrics are not too common. Westphalen Stoff is about the only quilt-weight fabric still made here (lovely woven stripes and checks), and the LQS owner stopped carrying it -she thought they had become unreliable suppliers. She now carries some very beautiful Indian-made woven stripes.

But back to your question: of course I would be happy to meet your friends and take them around the city (walking only! Bring comfy shoes!) Contact me privately. Roberta in D
