OT a little

I attended a Guild meeting this am. While talking to a friend I found she was going to sell her Bernina 930 on E Bay. She said if I could find a current value for this model, she would let me buy it. Don't want to over pay, but sure would like to have it. I own one I bought in 1983, and have worn out various parts more than once. The last episode was a snap, crackle and pop with smoke coming from the bobbin winder area. DH was able to fix the burned out capicitor on the cicuit board, but I have this heart dropping sensation every time I turn on the machine and anything unusual happens. Does anyone know the current selling prices or where I could look to find the values?????

There is one currently for sale on eBay (item #320187151153) -- watch it and see what it sells for... that should give you a general idea. Be sure to compare condition and what all is included.

A machine sold on eBay on November 26 for $955 (item #280175397630)

Another sold on the 25th of November for $3050.00 (item V\110196493843) -- it states "lots of extras"

One described as "mint" condition sold on Nov 24 for $1,035. (item #280174776867)

That should give you an idea... although the $3000 machine must have had solid gold extras going with it!

Hope that helps.

(to see the machines that sold -- just enter the item number in the search area of eBay's main page)

When I go to trade a sewing machine on a new one, my sm dealer has a book that lists the value of all the major sewing machines and models. You might check with a dealer and ask what the book says about the value.

Anna Belle, I do hope you manage to work out a fair price for both of you. Having twin Berninas is simply wonderful. All the feet and settings are the same so you can swap back and forth smoothly. It is glorious. Go for it. Polly

I was thinking the same thing, Knowing the weight, it would be a real task to get it boxed and delivered to a mail service. No commission fees either, I think Kate is right, the one for $3,000 must have gold extras. Anna Belle

I'm trying Polly. I would be a relief even if I had to use my own for parts. It is one of the ones Bernina did not retool when they had the mudslide, so parts are getting scarce. My local Bernina dealer is not one of the more accommodating ones. Anna Belle

Thanks Leslie, the local dealer doesn't want to be bothered if you are not buying one of the high end models from her. I gave up on that store a long time ago. Purchased my machine in 83 from another dealer who is out of business. Wonder if there is another place to find a book. Are they extensive enough to list all machines or just one brand? Anna Belle

I read the description to that auction and for the life of me, couldn't see what those "extras" were outside of the feet and workbooks ... perhaps it comes with the guarantee of perfect intersections and points, and perfect machine quilting patterns? ;)

I say, go for it, too, if you can afford it (I can't - which is why I say "if!") ... you obviously love the one you have and would give you tons of pleasure!! :)

Hugs!! Connie :)

It's a site where a sewing machine repairman will look up your machine in the Blue Book and let you know how much ... only problem might be is that I assume he gets LOTS of requests!!

HTH!! Connie :)

Any dealer of any brand should have the Blue Book---similar to autos, but for machines. It really wakes you up to compare different brands, and see how well some hold their value and how bad others are. Gen

One 930 that was for sale on ebay had the sale cancelled because the final bidder's account had been hijacked ..and I bet it was the $3K one.

I just MQ'd a quilt on my 930 and it worked like a charm ! Good luck on finding one for you !
