OT and for the cat's staff

Do you know that poinsettias and mistletoe are both poisonous to your QI? Do be careful when decorating with either of these. I would suggest putting them well out of reach if we only knew where that was. It seems to me that there are several new kittens in our group and I wanted to be sure that you knew of the danger. This might be a good year to decorate with silk . . . or tuna. Polly

Actually, this is one of those firmly-entrenched but untrue things that just won't go away---the poinsettia half, anyway. It's on all sorts of official lists, but a study showed poinsettias not to be poisonous. They can cause GI irritation, though, and are certainly not recommended for ingestion---except for taxmen, lawyers and people who don't like quilts

Mistletoe on the other hand can be deadly poison to anything that eats it. I always figured that that was how it started being hung up high enough for adults to kiss under it at Christmas. Way up out of reach of little people, but stll decorative.

Yep. I did know that. The only mistletoe around here is fake. But we do get at least one poinsettia each year, but the kitties ignore it. Maybe they're smarter than I give them credit for. (Heck, maybe Katie Mae likes getting locked in the laundry room. She ends up locked in there at least once a week.)
