OT bobbin thingy

I need more room for storing bobbins. My two options in my area are a round blue plastic thing that they sit in. Circle but there is no middle. My concern with this though is do the bobbins fall down are get tangled a lot?

The other is just a square case with a lid. I have two smaller versions of these while I like them I always tend to break the hinges on them. And the bigger case doesn't have hinges you need two hands to pry off the top. Which I guess is better when you got butter fingers. No more chasing bobbins rolling around on the floor.

Or I guess my other option is to use a small thread holder I have. I'ld like to hear what others are using and why you like it. Thanx Joanna remove QUILT to reply privately

I just got one of the rubberized donut-shapped holders and I love it. Because it is rubberized it grips the bobbins and they do not move once they are in there so no falling out and no thread tangles.

I have 2 blue ice cube trays. One with the 'neutral colored bobbins and the other with any color goes. Keep both trays filled with filled bobbins.

It's made of a flexible plastic and has a slight lip, the bobbins push in and they don't budge.

This is what I had before I got the one above, it's an infinitely superior product!

I use empty pill bottles and I can see through the plastic to know if the metal bobbin is full or empty. I also have a clean peanut butter jar with bobbins. For my plastic Pfaff bobbins I purchased a plastic box with spindles inside, and a top and it will hold more than 60 bobbins. I got a bunch of bobbins! Barbara in FL

I have the blue, plastic donut and it works great. I can pop a bobbin in or out with one hand! They do not fall out!

I have a clear plastic divided tray sort of thing that may have been made for beading folks. No lid. I wonder why Butterfly makes blue ice cubes. Weird, don't you think? Polly

Tis a conversation piece. Ppl wonder HOW I get my ice cubes blue. Poor things are COLD! Don't you turn blue when you are cold?

Go to the hardware store and buy a yard of clear plastic flexible tubing with a 3/8 in. interior opening. Cut it into sections a little less then

1/4 in. wide and then cut a slit in the side of each little circle so it opens. Put one piece of tubing around every filled bobbin. It will hold the thread beautifully in place at a cost of pennies apiece. You're welcome.

I have only used prewound bobbins for years. The come in a bag and I remove the cardboard before loading them into my machine. It gets used up with nothing left to store.

In the hint section of Fons & Porter, they suggested using the reinforcemnts (like on notebook paper) stuck on the side of the bobbin to hold the thread. Sounds good to me, especially since they are self adhesive now (reinforcements) and you don't have to lick them. Anna Belle

After reading all the good comments about the round blue BobbinSaver, I added it to my Christmas list :)

I took quarter round (or whatever it's called that has a half circle in it), measured the interior of my drawer and cut it to sized. I came up with two pieces, flat on the bottom. I put some glue between the two pieces and laid them in my drawer. Voila, easy, convenient and takes up just a little room in my drawer. I am thinking about cutting another piece so I have three rows.

As an aside, someone in my guild pointed out that the blue rubber bobbin holder is just right for putting salt on your Margarita glass, if that is your thing.

I have a foam rectangle with slits cut into it. The bobbins sit down in the slits. I also have one of the clear plastic boxes. Really like the foam thing, but I can't for the life of me remember where I got it.

I have 2 bobbin savers - 1 for machine piecing and one for my machine quilting. I love them. I keep the machine piecing one full with dark and light (2 colours) thread which I wind whenever my body doesn't like sewing. Makes me feel I am actually quilting when I am really not.
