OT BRRRRRR......

OK, I've had enough, it's 9.5 degrees F. outside this morning!

This is Virginia!

We haven't even reached the winter solstice!

I would move further south but I don't want to be near a hurricane either. AND I am breakfast, lunch, and dinner to blood sucking insects!

I think that I will go have some breakfast, and a hot cup of tea, French Vanilla tea, and pancakes, and real maple syrup!

We're at zero degrees this morning, although it's nice and sunny. It's a good day to stay home and quilt. I'm not sure what I should start next. I just finished my friend's daughter's Asian design quilt and I used a piece of Sushi material that I received as a squishy for the back label. I have also just finished a baby quilt for my new niece, with a little girl sock monkey in a dress that matches the quilt.

The Asian style quilt was one of those quilts from hell. The young woman I made it for is not "girly" and would not want flowers and frills, so this quilt is a 12" block made of three piece rail fence design. The two outer strips are black the inner one is black with red Asian writing. I WILL NEVER AGAIN MAKE A BLACK QUILT!!!!! At least not while I still have five critters in the house. What a nightmare. It's machine stitched in the ditch and hand quilted. I used a swivelling lap hoop and one day left it on the couch to later find that, Steve, my long-haired yellow and white cat, had crawled onto the quilt and was all snuggled up within the hoop, using it as a hammock. Very cute, but what a mess, just having that black quilt on my lap seemed to magically collect any stray critter hair from the entire house. Luckily this girl isn't allergic to cats and has one of her own.

I didn't want to wash it so I threw it in the dryer with a very wet towel and a couple fabric softener sheets, then directly into a plastic trash bag. I don't even think I will take it out of the bag to wrap it, just slap a red bow on the bag.

Today is so cold that all of the QIs are crashed in different sunny spots all over the house. There's a large sunny spot on the living room floor that looks real tempting. I just might curl up next to Kaz and take a nap with a quilt, not a black one though.

I can feel your pain, sister! I made two FLANNEL quilts primarily in black for my sisters. We have two Huskies, a Cocker Spaniel, and FOUR cats, one a longhair. None of them black themselves; all white or grey. Duct tape is my new best friend. Much cheaper than those lint rollers, and gets every last bit of the fur.

Who considers "her" cat to be the one who is allowed to sit on the quilts in process. The others know better. (They're my husband's and my brother-in-law's critters. I only claim the one cat.)

I would have to make a black quilt to hide the cat fur--------one black male, one mostly black tortie, and one silver tuxedo female.

Oddly enough the black male refuses to lay on white things. He prefers to lay on black things, then closes his eyes and almost disappears. We nicknamed him Stealth Kitty. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Our black cats have always had the amazing capability to shed visible hairs onto black items.

I have much black in both my wardrobe and household decor. The cats are in ecstasy. I think there is a cat commandment that goes something like "Thou shalt prefer sleeping on black or white above all other colors. If thou canst not find any, go for the velvet or flannel."

Mine don't have a chance to get onto velvet. It's outta my price range. Velour is cheaper, however dark blue Velour has the ability to attract everything except money and men. :-D

I'd buy some of that dark blue velour if it would attract money and men. I have 3 single sisters. It will take a lot to find either money or men for one or two of them!

Maki cat will work hard to find the clean dark laundry to leave his light hair on.

Ha! They'll never find men while they are looking for one. (Ask me how I know!) Once they decide to just have fun being themselves, it'll happen. It nearly always happens like that, and velour is never a factor in the love equation. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Ain't lookin' and sure wouldn't have another if he found me. No one can fill my beloved Pollocks shoes.
