OT - Buckwheat pillows

My DS has tried all the different 'neck' pillows, but none of them really are comfortable. He's asking me to make him a buckwheat pillow.

Anyone have any suggestions? Have you made a buckwheat pillow? How much (approximately) would you put in a pillow? Wouldn't you make the pillow smaller than a regular pillow? Wonder if you could put a fabric tube on the front of the pillow to give more support to your neck?

Any and all suggestions appreciated . . .

"Neck" pillow??? The C shaped pillow used when sitting in a tall chair? Or a bed pillow for sleep with a larger section for neck support during sleep?

No buckwheat pillows, corn pillows to place over the wood stove or heat register until time to put into the bed to warm feet. When you write 'buckwheat' are you meaning the hulls from wheat or just the grain with out hulls.

I would measure the space needed to be filled between neck and surface, then make pillow liners to match. Fill with enough grain to hold shape, but not budge and restrict movement of the grain. Then I would make a machine washable zipper closed cover for the pillow. (This would a good place to use up small quilting pieces. Place zipper away from skin contact. I usually place such zipper on one end of the pillow. This makes life more interesting when trying to reinsert the C shaped neck pillow. ;^) If this is a bed pillow you may not want to quilt the entire outer cover because seam lines are uncomfortable for sleep and leave odd marks on the face and neck.

The grain fill should accomplish this. Gentally warming the pillow before use might aid relaxing stiff neck muscles.

i got a wheat bag from DD for xmas. its for aches and pains use. i found it is perfect in front of the keyboard too. should warm up the wrists and hands nicely in winter too.

it sits nicely round my neck without falling as i wander round the house, lol. it is about 18inches long, just eyeballing it and about 6 inches wide. its been stitched thru so in three sections. works great to cross my arms on the desktop when just reading websites. the soft flannel is delightful. the best prezzie i've had in yrs. cheers, jeanne
