Howdy!

I'm glad you brought this up.

About a month ago I bought some of the new "white chocolate" M&Ms, just the smaller 50-cent bags. Before we could gobble them down both bags split (glue came unstuck) along the sides and the M&Ms dribbled to the ground. I wrote to the company, got a nice e-mail response, and the next week received 3 $1 coupons from M&Ms. Yee-Haw!

Ragmop/Sandy--M&MS, the Quilter's Candy, melt in your mouth, of course... btw, there is no such thing as "white chocolate" to chocolate fans but it's still rather tasty...

Cost Plus World Market has alot of the candy's listed. Beemans gum, Black Jack gum, Clove gum, and lots of candy from England. I get my fix of Jujube's there although they are a bit more expensive. I don't know if their website has the candy on it or if they ship to Canada.

To heck with candy, I have eaten $10 worth of Ranier cherries in the last 3 days. Omigod, they are so good. I wait for them all year.

On second thought, I bet they would be even better dipped in Chocolate.

Hmmmmmm

Got an even better one! I found a good size piece of painted wood - yuck!- in my Bertolli's frozen skillet meals dinner. Shrimp Scampi, if I recall. I emailed them, they emailed me back and sent me coupons for 4 free packages. These babies are $6.99/a piece!

Pretty good deal!

Yep. My parents always yelled at us when we bought candy necklaces. "Those things are made in _Korea_! They probably have worms or something in them!"

Yep. Can still buy those at the drugstore.

Nik-L-Nips. Used to could get them in holiday shapes some years. Trying to suck all the juice out of the skeletons before chewing up the wax was a trial.

*Makes a cross with her fingers* Avaunt thee hence! o vile and unclean spirit!

Though I must confess I thought they were the very stuff when I was about 7.

Still do. Which inspires me to hide the camera when they become available, usually around Halloween.

With the picture of the oddly colored zebra on the ads. Now I am thinking in terms of reverse applique over scrappy pieced stripes......

Other candy I saw a fair bit of as a kid....

Maple Buns Candy cigarettes Bubblegum cigars, but bubblegum cigarettes were not allowed. Go figure. Bullseyes Sassafras drops barley sugar sticks Sky Bars Mallow Cups and every time we went south of Pensylvania we were always on the lookout for Cherry Mash.

On holidays there were always bags of Licorice AllSorts, Pillow Mints, and those thick pink discs that I think were supposed to be wintergreen flavored.

NightMist Having a whole candy bar was a treat, usually they had to be split with siblings.

One year we went and picked lots of bing cherries. We couldn't eat them fast enough so I pitted the rest and put them in the dehydrator. Yummy but after a bit we tired of them so I tossed the remainders in the fridge and they were promptly forgotten.

Until Christmas time. We were dipping dried pears in bittersweet Scharffen-Berger chocolate. Ran out of pears before we ran out of chocolate so I started digging for more dippables and found the cherries. Oh My Gosh. Those dried cherries dipped in the dark chocolate. So good!

I always bought Necco wafers (even though they weren't my favourite at all) because they were the best value for money. We only went to the store once a month, and I wanted my 50 cents to last. I haven't had a wax candy since I was about 9. :( But! I found a candy necklace at the sweet shop over in Newport for 10 pence! (20 cents) I can't work out how long to enjoy the jewellery aspect of it before I eat it. Shall wear it tomorrow on my day off as I ponder this question.

Quite frankly you can't beat the people at good old Coca-Cola. When my 1.25 litre diet coke tasted a lot like chemicals they sent someone to pick it up. Not only that but they gave me 6 x 2-litre bottles, and 2 x 12 can packs. Plus they followed up and let me know the problem (their packaging was not quite right). NAYYY

Thanks for the reminder. I am going grocery shopping today. I just love those. I like the idea of being able to spitting out the pit (outside of course). lol

I wasn't fond of candy necklaces only because they left you with a sticky mess around your neck. You were supposed to wear them while you ate them weren't you? When I was growing up, you had a lot of candy for your dime. Lots of times they were 2 for a penny. Can't find that bargain around anymore. My favorite was what I called the saucers. They were saucer wafers filled with little round candies inside. Pop one in your mouth and let it melt to enjoy the candy. Another of my favorite was sunflower seeds. I think I just liked being able to spit out the shells.

Actually, it's better to ship it to me since I've put a moritorium on candy in the house (at least for me). DH and the kids can still have the little bit that they are allowed, but I'm working hard on cutting down on sugar intake. Besides, there are very few candies that I actually like - right now I'm getting my chocolate fix from the Kashi go lean nutrition bars and the ones from EAS.
