OT - Changes in plan

For the last month, DH has been seeing doctors and getting treatment (2 injections) for bulging discs and a pinched nerve in his neck. Needless to say, he isn't up for doing much, and we were thinking about him having neck surgery. During this time, I had lots of therapy quilting time!!!! Last Thursday, he started complaining of stomach pains. After waiting 2 days, he finally went to the Doc-in-a-box and was told to go immediately to the hospital to have his gall bladder checked. Well, Saturday morning at 8, one surgeon operated to clear his bile ducts. The surgery done through his mouth, esophagus, stomach, etc. etc. (amazing!) Sunday morning at 7:30, a different gastrointestinal surgeon removed the gall bladder laparoscoptically....4 bandaids!! Monday afternoon I brought him home. He's a little sore, but has no real pain, no restrictions, and no diet recommendations, other than low-fat. Since he was on pain-meds in the hospital, he had no neck pain....we're waiting to see what happens now. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the neck pain subsided with the pain meds and bed rest in the hospital?

So, we won't be going to our son's for Thanksgiving, and since they invited other guests, they can't come here. The other two sons will be with their in-laws. Rather than cooking for two (and facing all those leftovers), we're planning to go out. That'll be a big change for us!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Prayers for quick and restful healing for your DH. Hopefully the pain meds will help calm everything else down and he'll be a little more pain-free when he's finally off them.

We had planned on going to my brother's for Thanksgivining but the transmission on the card died and between that and other things decided to have the get together here. I'm still dealing with a residual cough from the 'cold from hell' six weeks ago, so I'm not going all out with turkey and all the trimmings this year....it will be lasagna (which I'll make tomorrow) and ham (the spiral sliced kind), salad and rolls. If someone wants turkey they can bring it thamselves :)

Enjoy your day!

My DH spent 3 months off work and another 4-5 months to get back to full time work last year ( and didn't that cost a fortune in pain meds !!), so I just hope the pain has subsided for your DH

So glad the surgeries went well. Aren't they wonderfull with their torches and pokey sticks these days? Do you think it is the sign of a misspent youth playing with those cranes in the penny Arcades?

My SM had her second cataract done this morning. I am looking forward to her getting her independence back and maybe some of her old condfidence. My jury is still out on whether I am looking forward to her taking to the wheel of a car again (she's 86) but if she can, it would take me off the hook as chauffeur for the shortest journeys.

Here's to the relaxation of the pain meds having the right effect on DH's disks. Nasty pain: disks... and shoulder (rotator cuff) injuries.

Careful there, Alice. The folks I know who've had gall bladder surgery all had to be gentle with their diets for a while. What does the doctor know? He's just practicing. Polly

I had my gall bladder out due to stones in 1995. I don't remember any restrictions on food.

Speaking of rotator cuff---I had arthroscopic surgery 3 weeks ago for rotator cuff, frayed tendon and bone spur. Everyone, even the surgeon, said it would be very painful. Guess I'm just a tough ole broad! The sling came off in 9 days and I had really good use of my arm. It'll be three weeks tomorrow. Full use of the arm---no pain except for mild discomfort the first 2 days. Gen

I am PERMANENTLY careful now. Too much (as in less than minimal!) fat/oil, and I'm in trouble. MOST folks are fine after they recover from the op. About 3% have to be careful forever.

Yes - and it goes on! But I did have a severe and long-term case of gall bladder disease before it was removed, and already had IBS.

Seconded!
