OT:checking in

Just a quick check-in - I've been reading but haven't posted much lately because:

-Thomas is taking gifted and tlaented classes this week which have me running back and forth to get him

-I'm homeschooling Rebekah (Thomas as well) over the summer, and that takes a bit of time

-Trying to get clothing made for my growing children (figured if I start now, they might have clothes when school starts...might just start adding ruffles to the bottom of Bek's pants)

-have gotten the go-ahead to take Thomas of his ADHD meds and try him on vitamin/mineral therapy over the summer (doc said it couldn't hurt him since he's low in just about every area, AND it might help him gain weight by boosting his appetite - have the suggested amounts of the vit/min we will be giving him and we will start him off slowly)

-no allergic reaction or atypical response to having things with eggs in them, so we will try him on the pineapple a little at a time, as for the rest, we don't eat crab or flounder and avoid ALL red dyes, so....

-working (still) on the large Mariner's Compass and it's half-size companion...hopefully done by anniversary in August

That's it in a nutshell. Prayers going out every day to those who have asked and even some of those who haven't. Jeanne, that game is about to drive me bonkers...only made it to level 3 before I gave up for the night...caught Karen between storms and other than a migraine (for her and Bob) she seemed to be doing ok with all the storms and such....

Love you guys and miss being able to read every day!

Hi, Hey I was wondering if you have heard of strattera (spelling) my son was tried on every stimulant add drug out there and he was underweight and they didnt really help all that much. In fact they sometimes made his outbursts far worse that without meds. They switched him to this med and it is a world of diff. I switched his schools this year, and I never even told them about his issues and guess what... I have had only 1 note home all year and its because it was being goofy at lunch with his friend. At lunch lol. wow. Anyhow, it works somewaht like an antidepressant wherein it needs several weeks to start to work. Just a thought of something to check into if he is having some weight issues etc. And I cant wait to see that mariners compass.

Hey Larissa!

Good to hear from you again. I know it's work, but it must make you really happy that Thomas was chosen for gifted and talented classes. Hopefully the school will continue to see the mind BEHIND the ADHD behavior. If you ever want to rant about schools and ADHD, you can email me. I have a WORLD of experience and learned a lot that I wish I had known sooner.

Let us know if the vitamins help with the weight. My DS hasn't been on ADD meds for at least two years, but he is STILL skinny at age 20 (6'4" and maybe 155 lbs.). My DGS is the same age as Thomas. They *thought* he was ADHD but have now decided on a diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome. If there is a way to improbe his appetite, I would love to know about it!

I cannot IMAGINE home-schooling my children, though I thought about it during the dark middle school years. Honestly, the list of things you take on and accomplish awes me. You are an inspiration.

Have a great summer.
