I want one of those. Next time I get to go shopping I think that will be on my list.

All perfectly reasonable. Until you need to get at that one certain connection. So for 98% of the time, the connections on the back are just fine. And to be fair, at this moment in time.....the two USB ports on the front of my Dell are unreachable for me! There is a strange flap that I can't seem to reach underneath while sitting on my chair (the CPU is on the floor). The design on the front of this 'puter has been a pain since I got it many years ago.

I've seen them for sale on tiger direct for $5 or $6 also. Make sure you get the adapter going the right way.

Howdy!

Dryer hoses: ACKKKKK! "In a house this size, they couldn't give another foot in the washroom?!!!?" I'm really too ...old, wide, chunky, decrepit! to jump or squeeze behind the dryer to re-attach the hose or pull out a rag that slipped back there; the boys are grown, tall guys w/ long arms that can just about reach back there... but they don't live here anymore. "Next house...!"

Computer: iMac sits on the desk, a couple of cords run out the back, along the wall to the electrical outlet; that's it; no "Up against the wall, redneck mother!" in this house. ;-D

Btw, why do so many sewing machines back up against the wall? Maybe a foot or 2 of space behind the machine -- I don't get that. But then, I've read too many suspense novels to sew w/ my back to the center of the room or towards the door.

Cheers! R/Sandy

My house is *small* -- and if I have to get behind my washer or dryer there's going to be a problem, since there isn't room to pull them out and still be in the room with them. :O

My MacBook sits on my desk most of the time, but I love that I can move it wherever I want/need it. ;)

I had mine up against the wall until just before Christmas -- but that wall has a lovely window so that I could look out at what was going on. Now that I have my new cabinet (oh, do I *love* my cabinet from Tracey's Tables!), I sit sideways to the window. I can still see out, though not as easily; but Bisou loves it, since now she can see out from her perch on the rocking chair (*her* rocking chair, in her opinion!). LOL! I have to admit that I love the new arrangement, too, since I can see the door to the room and the TV now. The only disadvantage is that the ironing board isn't as accessible, as its only possible location is behind the sewing cabinet, jammed up against the closet. I'll put up with that, though, to have this cabinet! :)

what type of computer is it? mine also has a flap on the front to hide the usb ports. the flap lifts up. i dont use the ports but i do lift it now and then to clean out the dust that accumulates. mine is a dell, about 3.5yrs old now, iirc. oh, on the floor might mean even flap lifted will be inconvenient to use the ports. oops. j.

Sounds like we have the same style CPU Jeanne....but mine is older than that. Since mine was temporarily relocated for me, it's on the floor instead of on the table top like it is in the basement. That's why I can't get to the silly USB ports on the front. The flap is in the way and they memory sticks also are inserted at a strange angle. I got down on the floor today to see if I could insert a flash drive/thumb drive (is there a difference?).............and thought I'd have to call for help to get up! It was a dumb thing to do. BUT since I did eventually get myself back up.....I'm getting better!

It seems to me that your computer might need a little bit of maintenance done on it. For example doyou check for spyware and malware - these are programs that sneak on to your computer from websites that you visit and can just sit there mucking up your system. You might have temporary files that are slowing down your computer which need to be removed. These come from two sources, the interenet and when your computer crashes - these need to be removed.

Do you know someone close by who could have a look for you and maybe help you to do the maintenance yourself. There are great free programs like Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware that help get rid of any bugs (not virus) that are the troublemakers.

Failing that, maybe a trip to an IT technician to check your computer for you.

As far as updating your computer, when you do, the computer tech just transfer everything over for you and you shouldn't have to reinstall all your programs.

I hope this helps you.

oh rats, i was sure i could remove that flap somehow but i'm not clever enough i guess. i do wish i could be more help. i know what a big fat pita 'tis when you cant physically do what you want to do and it should be so simple. any injury or just plain get'n older is no fun a'tall a'tall, nope not a'tall. i'll keep work'n on remove'n that flap tho. hmmmmm. will let ya know if i succeed. j.

Oh Jeanne....don't worry about it! I know you're a "worrier and a fixer". If I need something plugged in bad enough, DH will crawl around and get it in. Even with the silly flap off, the slots are so low and angled in such a way that they are difficult to use when the CPU is down on the floor. Hopefully I'll get this moved back to it's proper home within a couple more weeks. (However, I am getting spoiled by being in the family room while on the computer.)

oh, i thot it was in its usual posi. ok so i'll stop worrying about you and stop trying to think of a fix for it. i shall wait til you get all better and on the move properly again and the puter is back in its usual posi. thank goodness. tomorrow i will be driving tho i do not intend on work'n my patootie off like in previous yrs. tho truth be told as it is a Saturday this year there are lots of flowers picked up at the florist rather than being delivered and a weekend also so the florists have more family to to their own deliverys in the area. most of what i'll be doing is flowers that come from other florists around town into our area to deliver. there is also Ian and Karen helping as usual so i fully expect it to be a breeze. i went out and did only 8 deliverys at the far end of our area that dh couldnt get them done in time so i took'em all and did those. i still feel ok so i must of done something right this time or i did something really wrong on xmas eve. i was really worried i'd do whatever i did then again for these deliverys but whewwww, so far i'm ok. tho tomorrow is another day i will not let it worry me as usual. the weather has even cooled way down and will make tomorrow much more comfortable....unlike thursday which broke heat records here up and down the country. was 32.4C in auckland, highest since they kept records starting 137 yrs ago plus 100+% humidity on top of the heat made the day feel more like

40+C. then we're heading up to dh's sisters on sunday for a bbq lunch day. we've not seen there for ages and his brother is also over from oz so they can catch up again. anyhow. i'm glad to know you'll be ok with the puter soon as you get back on your feet properly and the house is back as it should be. hugz, j.

Take care of yourself while driving and delivering. Try to keep your back protected and take care when lifting the items out of the vehicle. I'm glad you're on the mend. And thanks for your sincere attempts to remedy my predicament. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel. And I don't think it's a train.....

Mine is on the floor too, or was, until I took an empty wooden fruit crate, covered it in fabric, and put the CPU on top of it. Adds about

6", just enough to br>what type of computer is it?

Kathyl, my USB port for my computer went bad and I had to find a keyboard with a serial port connection.

Or the other way around, it's been a couple years.

So far it's worked fine.
