OT: Consequences of Bad Flu

I had a bad case of the flu and got somewhat dehydrated, even though I was drinking some water, I had not eaten anything for a day. As a result of that, I fainted in the bathroom and badly broke my ankle (I'm lucky that I did not break my neck :-)). I ended up having surgery on the ankle on Friday (screws & metal plates) and am now on the mend.

Of course, hopefully, you will not get the flu at all. But if you do get catch it, make sure that you get plenty of fluids. Something like Gatoraid (NAYY) will give you some electrolytes as well as some calories. Then you will not be left with some unexpected side effect, like I did.

Oh my gosh Bev! I'm so glad you're okay, if somewhat battered. Here's hoping for a swift recovery. Hugs,

Oh my gosh, Bev, that's awful!

I had a side effect too. I coughed so hard for 2 weeks that I either broke or separated a rib. At the very least I tore some muscles. Now I can't cough. Literally. I choked on some wine and folded like a cheap suit.

Cindy > pain is finally easing up but I still can't cough.

I cannot imagine not being able to cough at all and it sounds much more fraught with danger than a broken ankle! I am still coughing a lot from the flu and have been wishing that it would stop. Now I am very thankful that I can do so.

I wish you a very speedy recovery from such an awful situation. Bev in TX

Thanks for the good tips :-). To think that a little gingerale could have prevented the whole disaster makes me shake my head. Bev in TX

Many thanks to all those who wished me well. I'm sending just one reply as it is a bit difficult for me to type twisted over sideways in bed :-).

It's hard to imagine how often you cough in a normal day! Next year I am getting a flu shot I'll tell you that.

I'm glad you didn't crack your head when you fell down.
