OT - Feeling Miserabubble

Yup after telling my kids they can only get sick in school vacation, I've gone and got sick in the first week back to work/school.

I think I can thank my wonderful (yeah, right! LOL) caring, sharing husband for caring enough to share his miserable yucky head cold with me. My nose is alternately blocked and running, my throat is all scratchy, I'm sneezing enough to power a small town, and giving the odd cough as well. Luckily I'm doped up on Codral Cold and Flu tablets so I can see the funny side of things.

I've also called in sick to work (no need o spread germs and one of the teachers went off sick day afore yesterday).

I've "also" had to call out a sparky (read electrician) as the smoke detector upstairs has got some gremlins in it. Don't know if I mentioned but about 2 months ago (gosh it's gone fast) I went to go to bed and smelled smoke - couldn't find anything and nor coud DFIL and the smoke detector wasn't going off so I relaxed. Although we did change the battery because it was beeping that it needed a new one.

This morning I was awakened at 5.20am by the smoke detector going off with a very loud BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. Then it would stop and two/three minutes later the same again. Only no smoke, no fire, no nothing. I ran around the house in my altogether (not a pretty sight I know) searching for smoke/fire/anything and found zero. It then went to short beeps every few minutes and flashing a red light. I've changed the battery again but we still have intermittent beeps and continual red light flashing. Sparky is due any time now.

Gonna cost $80 call out plus and astronomical hourly fee but as I've always said better to be safe than sorry. And if he's cute and looks good in overalls - well that's just a bonus. Why do these things always happen when DH is away?????

Oh Sharon I'm sorry you have the creepy crud. {{{hugs}}} Hug on that, and leave Sparky to do his work. Hubby will be home soon.

No, no, no, no NO you evil minded woman you!!! I was already sick before the sparky was called. Oh and he wasn't really my type (a bit too much on the slender side!). But he did the job AND he arrived early! Can you believe it? A tradey who actually turns up early???? Scarey but true.

Hope you're feeling better quickly Sharon. I had the final week off last term with a nasty flu. I actually went in on the Wednesday and got sent packing back home! No-one wanted my germs for the holidays. (We're one week behind you, by the way, so I'm still at home.)

Out of curiosity, what did the sparky do to the smoke alarms? When we changed our batteries recently, they kept beeping. It was bad enough to send DH to the instruction booklet! It said to try vacuuming them. We did. Problem solved. Might want to file that away for future reference, just in case.

Anyway, rest up and get well.

Had a look and tried that before said spary arrived. Mind you we were never given the instruction book as the builders put it in when the did the extension. I found answers on the trusty 'net. Alas they didn't work.

He came in and I told him what had happened and he had a look and said that it was one of the "el cheapo" models that builders will use to save money and that we were better off to replace it as they usually had a working life of about 2 years (ours made 3). When I mentioned the 10 year old trouble free one downstairs he said it was the luck of the draw and probably a better model.

Anyways I now have a brand new one plus the instructions. And as I said to him, I don't want to risk it with something that is dodgy. Too much at stake (like stash and QIs and Kids ....oh and the occasionally home husband!!! LOL)

I am fighting a cold/sinus infection and feel like my head is going to explode. My eyebrows feel like they are hanging and my nose feels like an elephant is perched on it.

DH called me last night from NY - he has come down with a cold too and is flying home tonight. Flying and stuffy sinuses don't mix well, so I expect he will have a migraine when he gets here. ~~sign~~

Sorry, I don't usually like to talk about my stte of health, but I am a bit lonely today.

Pills are working a treat at the mo. So good I'm heading to work - naturally I will tell them all I am still in dire straits and have only come in because it is my half day and I'm such a loyal worker.

I too believe sparky was well worth the money spent.

Thanks for the hugs

Howdy Jan. I've just sent DH off to the USA this morning and on account of he caringly shared his germs with me (hence my post) I have now caringly shared my germs with him. Hopefully both of us will get over it this week while we are apart! LOL.

Hope you get better soon Jan - and there's no need to be lonely - we are here for you!

Sharon, I wish you could have come to the USA with your DH this time-- you know, Paducah's next week! I'll be going, as usual; and really would like to see the bunch we met a few years ago at the park... rusty (are you listening, Pat on the Hill?)

Hi Rusty! It was fun to meet everyone at the park that year, wasn't it? I'll be there again this year. Do you think we could talk Leslie and Pat into a quick road trip?? Maybe next year!

Certainly am, Rusty! Wasn't that a great meet-up? It was such fun watching the cars that drove up to the parking place, wondering if this was 'another one of ours' and, if so, who it might be >g< . In message , rusty writes

"Quick"?!!!!! Something like an 8000 mile round trip (having to land in Chicago first). But, it was *so* worth it. I have sort of been 'wondering' about 2008. Depends on lots of things ... ... . In message , KJ writes

Ah, Rusty, I too would have loved to have been there. However, for some ridiculous reason airline seats to the USA from Melbourne are almost impossible to get at the moment (hence DH leaving Friday AM instead of Sunday AM when he should have been leaving. Return flights are just as bad. Plus unless I take Leave Without Pay my vacation options are limited to school holidays.
