OT:feeling stressed

Did I mention that once we've moved house,

I'M NEVER MOVING HOUSE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Ok, so we signed all the papers at the bank last week, again, because there was a mistake on the 1st lot, not our fault - the banks..., not that they pointed it out to us, I noticed. Thats what I get for having worked in book-keeping, there is always a reason.

Anyway, after signing, we were asked by the loan adviser, would it be possible for us to move a few weeks later. It was one of those remarks as we were shaking hands and leaving the office, should I worry about this or not.....is it important, or just a young bank worker panicking about what he is meant to be doing. I wouldn't mind so much, but since this all started he had 2 weeks hols and when he returned he didn't contact us for a further 2 weeks, although I endeavored to contact him for information, by email and calling in at the branch. He wondered why I was concerned, as there was loads of time....

OK, this was an off the cuff remark, probably 'cause he made a mistake and he is now running behind, but in France you sign and complete in 12 weeks, unless all parties arrange otherwise. We negotiated for 14 weeks, well above what they consider normal. We don't want to mess around the people that we are buying from, but now I keep wondering is the phone going to ring, will I get an email, will we have to renegotiate dates... He has, however, given an attestation to the Notaire to say that we will have the mortgage, but that was given before he decided that it is all going through too fast now.

We move in less than 3 weeks on the 10th July, friends are helping us move, holidays are booked and notice handed in on our rental. I wouldn't know where to start and if it goes past July 14th (National Holiday) we don't stand a chance of getting it sorted before September.

DH says it is the banks fault and they will have to sort it out, but me being at home packing am wondering if it will happen at all at this rate.

Oh yes and I've a wall hanging to finish by the 2nd July for an exhibition.

Take a deep breath, Janner. I suspect your DH is right and that your move will go on schedule, whether the bank is happy about it or not. :)

Feeling a bit better now :)

Yep, I bet DH is right, but on the week-end when all the offices are shut, I'm tired from packing, I'm just looking for that excuse for someone to pull that rug out from under me.

The house we are buying is sooooooooo the dream house, that until we turn the key in the lock, then I won't believe that it is ours. We've been renting here for just over 2 1/2 yrs and will be so glad to move out. This house suffers with damp, clay soil and river valley! For example DD#1 has a spare bed in her room with a pull out mattress underneath; well, I took that apart today and the lower mattress was so wet from damp, that it went out in the garden to dry. Took best part of a day, you would have thought that someone had upset a bucket of water on it! Everything has that damp smell, so when we move it should be hot and dry, so everything will get a good airing before going in the new house, on the side of the hill overlooking the valley!!! Nice view from up there!!

Anyway, haven't heard anything today, so every day that goes by, should be to our advantage. Fingers crossed and all that!

The only people that I've spoken to about house buying here, were either cash buyers or inherited from family! We're having a mortgage, some from the bank and some backed by the French Government, to get 1st time buyers buying, so it should be OK. Oh well, deep breath and more chocolate........

I can sympathize... I just bought a house and am still unpacking and getting organized 2.5 mo. later. But here it is soooo different! I made an offer on the house- and from there got the mortgage and owned the house TEN days later, immediately started painting the interior of the new/old house, packed the boxes and then moved the following week! Whew! I guess I'm trying to say quicker isn't necessarily better? LOL Good luck with getting it all sorted out and making the actual move. I feel for you!

I would send an e-mail and snail mail letter to the load adviser that you are moving into the house on 10 July 2009 AS AGREED UPON.

If he has something else in mind, I'm sure he'll get in touch with you. It might not hurt to send the same letter to his boss.

I did this to the builder who kept on delaying finishing this house! I said OK, your last date for completion was 12 December. I am going to move in on that date, with my two cats, four rabbits and a greenhouse full of cacti >ggI would send an e-mail and snail mail letter to the load adviser that you

If the banks have bogged up, surely THEY sort it out - including arranging and paying for accommodation if they fail to get the dates lined up properly.

It's all very worrying if you aren't sure what's happening. Best of luck.

Oh gosh, I can see why you're feeling stressed. That would stress me too. While I might not like the answer, I know that *knowing* exactly what was going to happen would make me feel better. Any way you can pin down whether or not the date is going to change? (And if you find out in advance that the young banker is trying to change the date, it would give you a chance to inform him that is unacceptable.)

Apparently, because we have signed already for that date, then us and the people that we are buying from are the only ones that can renegotiate that date.

However, if the money isn't ready, then I don't know what happens.

As it was an off the cuff remark as I was leaving, I'm loath to inquire, in case he thinks that we are keen to move the date.

I was talking to a friend last evening and he said that this is fairly normal practice here, to get so far in and then they suggest changing dates. Probably, because they are so laid back here that they don't like working under pressure!!! Haven't heard anything more from him since, so leave sleeping dogs lie, he knows when it is all due.

Keep your fingers crossed for us...

Hi Janner,

Yeah, that makes sense--not wanting to remind the banker that he suggested a later date. Sounds like the situation with the date should be fairly definite. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed the banker was just trying to keep himself from extra work and will get it done on time!

Your new house sounds so lovely! All this headache will be worth it. :-)

OK, all went crazy yesterday!!!!

We went to the estate agent x 2, notaire x 2 and the surveyor x 2!!!

Everyone was phoning everyone. Just went crazy.

This am, before work, DH came with me to sign at the surveyors, then went to the notaire and then the bank. This am, the bank asked what's the problem? gggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

As far as the bank is concerned everything is ok and why was everyone fussing? Hang on, they were the ones that said that it wasn't, the rest of us were quite happy!

Anyway, after the notaire threatened to sue the bank for hotel, storage compensation for the vendors etc, it all seems to have been sorted, fingers crossed and all that.......

I suggest staying in that darkened room, until all has not only been signed, but sealed and delivered, too.

Oh yes, it is really nice here in the dark, with the glow of the computer screen :P)

I knew that something would happen, because it had gone quiet and there always seems to be something with buying houses. I'm sure that it is so we appreciate it and feel that we've earnt it when we finally get through that front door!!!

Then the real work begins.........

I will keep repeating that phrase over & over 'cause it seems no better today. Fingers crossed the bank & notaire are speaking to each other as I type.

OK, just heard that they (bank guy & notaire) actually met each other and discussed it all & it is OK and the money will be released on time.......fingers are still firmly crossed, but at least they have spoken to each other, rather than through us - which does cause problems with the languages and translations and us just not knowing the system.

Coffee, more coffee and I'm not telling you how much chocolate I've ate!!! And I have a dentist appointment this pm as well, 'cause a replacement filling fell out and took half my tooth with it! Normally stressed out by dentists, but what with everything else that has been happening at the mo, not too bad :P)

Whew! So glad to hear that everything appears to be on track. It's pretty bad when going to the dentist seems preferable to everything else that's going on!
