OT Feline Nerf Evasion

Jiji-chan is in so much TROUBLE!

DD3 got herself a ranched fox pelt last year. She got it fairly inexpensively because it is a white pelt with an off color paw and a streak in the tail. Her room is a no cats zone because she has her furs and she has her betta fish.

Jiji figured out how to open her door last night. Thankfully the fish are OK, but he "caught" part of the fox's tail. I espied him running past with something white and poofy in his mouth and thought it was a bit of fluff from this years dollmaking, or that he had gotten into the batting. When I caught up to him he did the whole triumphant mighty hunter routine, set the fur down, put one foot on it, waved the other paw at me, and gave me the details of his Great Hunt in catspeak. Cats are worse liars than fishermen about stuff like that. (G) Of course I confiscated the bit of tail. When DH saw he told Jiji, "You are so gonna get it! she is going to make you into fuzzy slipper insoles, and make tiny little flutes out of your bones!" Jiji was going around making out that he was a lion until DD got up this morning. Oohhhh she was mad! She chased him up and down the house. We told her she couldn't kill him, she said "I don't want to kill him, but he is going to replace that tail!" While a white fox pelt with a fluffy black tail attached might be unique looking, a tail-less angora cat would be just pitiful. So she is having to settle for annoying the cat. Every time he gets within ten feet of her she shoots him with a Nerf gun. Every time she gets within ten feet of him, ditto. She has hit me several time already (Nerf weaponry is far from accurate), and Ji-chan has taken to trying to burrow behind me wherever I am sitting. Using me as a human shield I presume. It seems every time he pokes his nose out from behind me I get nerfed. I don't know whether to lock him in my room, lock her in her room, lock myself in my studio, or get myself a nerf chain gun.

The picture of all this nerfiness going on is hilarious!

Thanks for a smile! 'Specially about Jiji talking to you - that had to be hysterical to see. Join the fun - go get yourself a nerf gun and go after 'em all!

I understand nerf but what is a ranched fox pelt? And what do you do with one? wear it, stand on it? drape it tastefully (or not) around your throat to ward off vampires and strep germs? Let it peek from the too-revealing neckline of your little black dress? Polly

NM, it's a tough call whether I'd rather be a mouse in your house or Polly's. Both seem so *much* more fun than my house! My big excitement was coming home from church yesterday and walking thru my bedroom- and saw Hoover (my darling silly Golden Retriever) laying on my bed all alert with his ears perked up and looking very smug and proud of himself. I said 'hi' to him and walked past. On the way back out I noticed..... a dead squirrel laying between his front paws. On MY bed! Yikes!!! This after coming home at midnight a few months ago and finding a HUGE dead ground hog in the middle of my kitchen floor. (I need to start keeping their doggy door locked when I'm not home.... LOL)

Happy Holidays to you and yours... and poor Jiji Cat!

Oh, Kathyl, that wasn't nearly as bad as the time he brought a rabbit in my house. I thought it was dead so went for a box to put the carcass in. When I came back the rabbit was gone! I called the ex to come help me find the rabbit lose in my house... he showed up with a BBQ tongs of all things! He managed to catch the formerly stunned rabbit- using the BBQ tongs!- and turned it loose in my yard. The rabbit hopped off....

Hoover looks like a lazy, well-indulged, sweet natured love-bug but it seems he's a ferocious hunter once it gets dark! ;-) I won't tell you about the rats he's caught but didn't get to bring in the house because we saw them first before he got thru the doggy door. Living in the country (or the very edge of a very small town) brings all kinds of critters in the yard..... and Hoover hunts them all.

Ranched just means it was raised for it's fur, not caught in the wild. Usually buyers for furriers purchase them, but when the hides are unacceptable for commercial use they are often picked up by small retail shops and sold to whoever will buy them.

DD has been collecting assorted pelts and bits of hide for a long time. She has everything from rabbit (available for cheap or free locally from almost anyone that raises fruit trees), to a scrap of lion that is some 60-80 years old. She has a number of plans for her bits and bobs, but thus far is mostly sleeping under the heap of them as if she were a cavewoman.

Yes it is true. The lovely interlaced star quilt I made is buried under a heap of smelly old animal skins.

Oh. Thank you, NM. There's some fur in my past. I made a mink coat for a beloved niece's Barbie, a raccoon purse that I carried until it molted and other fun stuff. Right now I have quite a stash of Donna Sawyler's quite nice fake fur that I use for Alzheimer's patients lap quilts. Even made a fox teddy bear. Fur is good, especially to Jiji I'm thinking. Polly

OMG, I just can't stop laughing..... Definitely get the big Nerf gun. I understand they make them with ammo strips that go through the gun 'Gatling Gun' style. As for dead creatures, properly tanned or not, I think I'd have to lock the dogs in at night. But I thoroughly understand the skins thing. I so wanted a pair of boots with real skin/ fur at the top when I was stupidly young (think 15). I started trying to collect nice pieces of skin and fur. Sigh. A good memory.

Oh dear, that is just too funny. I'm going to have to point out the obvious--Jiji has no idea why your DD has suddenly gone on a nerf rampage against him. Him's just been huntin' critters, ya know? ;-)
