OT - Funny (sorta) bathroom story

Now this sorta beats all. Some background. I work in a fairly small elementary school. We have

40 full time female employees, another 40 part-time female employees, 2 full time male employees and 2 part time male employees. We have 4 toilets for the ladies and 2 for the men. Remember, most of the employees are teachers, which means that potty time occurs primarily between classes and since teachers can teach for up to 3 hours straight - that can be a very long time. Needless to say, there are often lines at the bathroom with some very desperate people.

Now, along comes our new principal, who has decided to commandeer one of our ladies rooms as her own private potty. Seems she's worried about "germs." As she explained it, teachers carry a lot of germs because we are around germy kids all day and principals need to take extra precautions to stay healthy because they have such an important job. Therefore, she does not want to use a bathroom that is shared with teachers.

I think I would round up a few dollars from all the teachers and order up a couple of port-a potties. As soon as those arrive it is time to call local media. Local talk radio would go wild with a story like this. Crazy administrators. They are exactly the reason I vote down school bonds. Why would I want someone who is so ill placed having access to any more funds?

A campaign to the union for adult diaper allowance might stir up some interest too.

I celebrated the day my baby was out of public educati> Now this sorta beats all.

I think that there would be occasions where the women would be using the mens... sometimes you just 'gotta go'

Do you have a teacher's Union? Maybe your rep should get involved. I'm not a Union type...but that's just nuts! Or maybe you could talk to the Superintendent?

An anonymous note to the superintended with the facts -- no emotion or caustic remarks... might go along way.

start it out as... "thought you might find informative..."

Oh, for heaven's sake. Can we say OCD?!!! How does someone like that get into a leadership position? Do you have a local news channel with an investigative reporter like we do here? That might be a "fun" thing to do.

Ahhh, that was just my first knee jerk reaction....I know NOTHING about that sort of thing. But your situation is just ludicrous! Then perhaps the superintendent might be the next step. Has anyone spoken with the principal to see if she can see the error of her ways? Or perhaps teach her how to wash her hands to avoid germs? Maybe at the next staff meeting you all should wear gloves and masks???

So you now have three toilets for the 80 ladies, one reserved for the principal and two for the four men? Somehow this doesn't add up. And since when is the principal so much more important than the teachers???

Dee, we used to do exactly that in my school. The women teachers far outnumbered the men, and there were times when there was a line outside the ladies' toilet and the men's was empty. We just used it to shorten our own line.

Well maybe she shouldn't be working in a school if she is so phobic about germs. Perhaps she should be working in a job that requires little or no human contact at all. Can the school board do anything about it? Debra in VA See my quilts at

If this woman is so afraid of the germs c arried by her teachers, what does she think about kids? If my children were attending that school, I would want to know that the principal had a germ phobia based on the assumption that anyone close to children is somehow infested or infected. I can only assume she avoids the children like.... well, like the plague. I would find a way to let a parent know what was going on. A parent who knows how to get things done and make a bit of noise without being offensive or going ballistic. You may need that other bathroom, but the children at your school need a principal who doesn't view them as vectors.

Call the local news station........they LOVE this stuff!! You can be assured she'd never find out "who dropped the dime" on her from the TV station. Sounds like she'd up for the KOMO Schrammie Award in Seattle, eh Terri?

Howdy!

Someone's just asking for a swirlie, in her own private bathroom.

Be sure to wash & dry your hands before touching the quilts. ;-P
