OT: Happy Labor Day

Labor Day has its roots in the union movements of the middle. 1990's in the USA. Anymore it seems that fewer employers and employees get to take advantage of this day set aside to be off the job. I am planning a nice picnic with some friends and maybe even my DD, SIL & DGD tomorrow. The menu includes ribs, corn on the cop, potato salad, baked beans, Jell-O salad and a desert that I have yet to decide on. It will most likely be an ice cream sundae though. And if the weather permits, we may even hit the lake for a bit. right now it is raining so that part could be out. But nonetheless the day should be wonderful, rain or no rain! Thanks for your wishes for a happy day, Julia! Mine started out by sleeping in. It felt so-o-o-o good!

In a little while, I'll go fix breakfast, and then I'm heading to the sewing room. I don't think we have a thing planned for today, and I want to work on a quilt I started yesterday. It's for my stepson (it's a Christmas gift -- I just don't know for what year!) and is going to be red, white, black, and gray. He's a Dale Earnhardt (Sr. and Jr.) fan, and a while back I found pillow panels and other fabric that I'm using as a starting point. The panels will be the center of the quilt (I've set them in an attic windows border), and then I'll use various other blocks to make it a good-size lap quilt. I have just about finished the center, so wish me luck as I try to figure out what to do with the rest of it!

Not us, we are taking it off! There is a bit of house cleaning scheduled, but mostly quilting (have two baby quilts to finish today, will leave the binding to hand sew Wed. after the amnio), and we are having friends over for a duck dinner tonight....
