OT: iced in and no power!

Well, I obviously have power *now*, but it went out around 2am as well as the phone lines. We moved both children into our room - 2 adults and

2 children in a queen sized bed is NOT fun or comfortable (DH started in one of the oversized chairs, then moved back to the bed, I wound up on the floor).

All the lines were completely iced over and several trees had lost branches or even cracked in half. Fortunately, I didn't see any that had fallen onto houses or cars. Once the sun came up, DH shoveled out behind the van so that I could get a "running start" towards the roads. With no power, we couldn't have coffee and we were both pretty much at the end of our ropes, so.....off I ran to the local gas station that has excellent mochas, then to Wendy's for lunch, then back home. Caffeine really helped ease the tension of the day :-)

Everybody went down for some quiet time (it had been total chaos with the children running aorund playing tag and whatnot, but at least they were staying warm!!). Within 10 minutes of us laying down, the phone and power were both back on!!

Needless to say, not a whole lot got done around here. I'm working on something for a pattern review contest, so no quilting...well, that and also waiting for my order from Keepsake to get here (they said by Friday).

I had thought, once we left Liverpool, NY, we wouldn't really have to worry about needing a generator....boy, would that have come in handy today!! I think there are several reasons behind all of this....first, forces are at work to keep the rather large group of Christian women I'm friends with from meeting (this is the second week that schools have been closed on tuesday and wednesday...Bible study is wednesday mornings), 2nd, I think this is payback for DH and me laughing at his coworkers in the Syracuse office....or maybe it's just a reminder not to get too arrogant and snotty....before we found out we were moving to VA, we had put in an offer on a gorgeous Victorian, completely restored, in Fulton, NY....right where all of that snow fell last week. Guess we could've been worse off than just being out of power for 12 hours, huh??

Well, off to finish some hand beading, then back to the sewing machine

Larisa, waiting anxiously for the 1/4" black fusible bias that I need to finish my stained glass banners
