OT: Is everybody okay?

When I checked the group this morning, there was only one post from overnight, and there have been none at all since then. It's probably a server problem, but I thought I'd send a message to see if it shows up. Or maybe all of you are just trying to catch up on your sleep in preparation for tomorrow night?

We're fine here in Heywood, though rather indolent following too much food and enjoying a break from work and school. The snow has melted and we have had a couple of misty days with rain forecast for New Year's Day itself, before another inrush of freezing conditions.

The Xbox360 has kept the boys (large and small) occupied fairly amicably and I have pottered gently, knowing that if I don't run the washing machine that day it isn't a great disaster.

We go back to "normality", whatever that means, on Tuesday.

Gee, Lizzy, your weather sounds about like ours. We still have snow on the ground, but it's melting quickly with today's fog and rain. I do worry about NYE, though, as the temps are supposed to drop pretty drastically tomorrow night, and if the rain continues, we could end up with some nasty icy conditions.

I'm glad to see some posts popping up - guess everyone was just quiet and restful this morning.

And now, back to quilt> >> When I checked the group this morning, there was only one post from

I'm here. A very few people know about my Newborns in Need sewing. Now and then I'm brought a donation from someone who doesn't sew but wants to help. Oh my. I was given a mountain of yummy, heavy double-faced Minkee and puzzled for quite a while 'what' to do with it. I guess nobody else knew either since the happy donor found it for $1 yard. Tomorrow is vacuum/mop day; I thought I might as well create a blizzard of my own. I did. I cut the Minkee mountain into receiving blanket sizes, went outside and shook it really well, overcast the edges (several miles) and then stitched the edges for a sort of hem. Washed them to make sure no fuzzies were going to fluff off. Beautiful. Wonderful . . . except, yes. Even the Yorkie is going to need a thorough brushing. He won't mind. The receiving blankets are lovely. Polly

We are ok here in my corner of the high desert. It is really cold though. We got in a quick visit for a couple of days to ds in San Diego. It was raining there. How rotten is that? I just got back from a trip to Joann's and Home Fabrics. Clearance fabric was half off so I got some nice pieces of fabric for $1.50 a yard. Although we are in CA we celebrate New Year's on NYC time. No sleep stashing for us wild folk. I guess everyone is just busy winding down and prepping to go into the new year. Taria

I only had one today also until you woke us up :) got a wonderful velour set that SIL is taking the slacks in on. got them an extra size larger than normal so I could get it over my cast..she's taking the 'seat' in so they'll stay up. Actually went to Target this Am..got a bit of cabin fever---seems like all I've done is Dr/cast room/home. It was NICE...store was practically empty so I had no fear of being 'bumped' as I was using the lil scooter..foot-powered.

Run into some major hurdles in getting DD here what with the Holidays, etc. they're now saying she may be discharged on Mon. here's hoping.

We're actually enjoying a heat wave today. First day above zero in almost three weeks. So far it's hit 12. Also had a power outage Christmas Day evening for 3.5 hours. Too dark to sew by candle so listened to the radio and relaxed.

Enjoying all my Santa gifts. I got a bendy ruler and a landscape quilt book, 4-piece square ruler set, TSWLTH gift card and some books to read. Also some new software for school and pleasure. Otherwise trying to finish quilty projects. Got the new stockings done from 16 year-old fabric, finished "bell pull" type thingys for trading pins for a friend to hang on each side of her t-shirt quilt from 20+ years of college volleyball reffing, hand-quilting a hexagon wall hanging and sorting and putting away my messy stash.

My guy is being special and letting me sew, read, sleep and be a slug if I want too. Back to the grind on Monday. It's been a good break.

We are having a heat-wave here in Australia - up in the high 30's/low 40's C. (100F to 107F) Not looking forward to heat. Oh well, will have to drink plenty of cool water and maybe something a bit more cheery.

Happy New Year everyone.

I'm up in Victorville so I am a long way from there. My grandparents lived in Long Beach and I still have a cousin in Lakewood. I spent a lot of time down there as a kid but it has been awhile. You guys must be pretty cold down there (relatively speaking) It is just above freezing here on my corner of the high desert and dh says we might get snow! Our winters aren't usually this cold. Sorry we didn't welcome you to CA with better weather. Taria Taria

Well, back in NY it is 40F where I live, and 50 further east near where Amy used to live. With about 3 feet of snow on the ground and rain forecast for today and tonight. They _say_ it shant get back down to freezing until tomorrow night. Let us hope they are correct, for if it goes back down to freezing or below tonight the roads will be a glare of ice.

Any rate I am sure the southern California weather is perfectly balmy by comparison!
