OT -- need time wasters...

I'm finding myself more and more laid up... and it is too hard to sew... cuz I can't hold my neck or my head the way I need to... to do it! GRRR

But I can kill time in my recliner... head supported... laptop in my lap.

So what online games do you recommend that will help me kill time?

PS -- took the MRI scans to the MD today -- hopefully they'll have a treatment plan soon! I don't know what I'm going to do about dinner next Thursday. Standing for hours preparing it just isn't going to happen!

if ya need more when these wear thin, holler. we dont do Tday here and i've forgotten what all it entails. how many are expected? surely the others can cope. how about just doing T Breasts with simple trimmings, roast all the vege in the oven along with the breast. open a can or three of the cranberry. use frozen pies for dessert. not the best in town but when mum is laid up, ya be lucky if ya dont get pizza delivered. hmm, does pizza hut do turkey and cranberry pizza? we just had a chicken with cranberry sauce here last night. we rarely do pizza so it was a treat. get well soon, tootsie!! more gentle {{{{{KATE}}}}}}}}}} j.

Maybe you also need something not based round the computer?

I was in Romania this summer and discovered the Moldavian kaval, which is a very large whistle made of very light wood. You can easily play it lying flat on your back, and the sound is quiet so you don't wake the whole house up. There are other kinds of low whistles made of light materials that would work as well - look at

for some really lovely ones (he'sbased in Germany but they're light to ship as they're all madeof PVC plumbing pipe). Remember you'll need an instrument youplay vertically, not a transverse flute, and it needs to be BIGand LOW because the sound of a high one will drive you and thosearound you nuts if you play it for a long time. Doesn't matter if you never get to be any good on it, they're great fun to just noodle around on and hear what sounds and patterns you can make.

Look up "Moldvai kaval", "fujara", and "low whistle" on YouTube. I'd go for one of the first two as there's less pressure to Get It Right and play definite tunes in a standard way; the Western- type low whistle is mainly used for Irish music and those guys can be pretty judgmental, it'll be hard to keep them out of your head even if you're alone in bed with the thing. (If you do go for a low whistle, get a wooden or plastic one, they're lighter than aluminium or steel by a long way).

Sounds as if surgery may be in your future. DH went through the same thing back in the 70's. As for Thanksgiving dinner, let Meijers or Krogers fix it for you. They both have full meals for that day. Gen

I play a lot of games there-- a bit of an addiction to Wordz.....

The patchwork game makes me nuts... I'm always so slow at it!

At least one of the local grocery stores here will cook your Thanksgiving dinner for you. Do you have anything like that around you? Or can you go out for dinner? Or maybe it's time for a new holiday tradition.

Kate there are lots of games on the AARP website. All kinds of games. Shockwave has a Patchworkz game that is sort of fun. (I used to get to it by googling "Patchworkz".)

I try not to find too many games, because then I spend even more time playing than sewing, and I have way too many class samples to finish up at the moment. Not to mention holiday gifts. sigh.

As for the big dinner..... might be time to start a new tradition... go out for dinner. We started doing that when I was working retail, and had to open the store on "Black Friday". Which meant that I had to be up and moving by about 4:30 that morning. sigh. We started going to Old Country Buffet and had a wonderful, all you can eat, meal. No prep, no clean up. Later on I would cook a turkey, or turkey breast, and stuffing so we could have leftovers.

Not to bad, but then I've always enjoyed that sort of puzzle. There are a few levels that I can never get it finished first, but still manage to get a reasonable score. I've been mucking around with Glassez 2 and Hitz 2, I've created a few new levels and I keeping hoping that they might turn up but so far they haven't. I also like the Mysteriez games. There's only 2 levels in the first one where I'm unable to find just one number to complete the level, which gets rather frustrating.

I agree ! We did that a couple of years when my oven conked out ... When I said something about ..All that cooking.....dh mentioned going out again... Dear heart!...But it is so much more fun at home ..unless there are circumstances beyond your control !...You can always have dessert and coffee/tea/sherry at home !!!... I remember one family that we met while we were out for our Thanksgiving meal were going to choose their Christmas tree as soon as they had finished their dinner. I thought that that was a nice tradition Mary

i recall a long time back when sil called to suggest we go out to dinner for xmas as there'd then be no messing around with all that cooking, cleaning etc. the particular place she wanted to go was a buffet xmas dinner. cost back then was $55 per adult + $1 per year for kids under 11yo. all her kids were under 11yo. all mine then were over 11yo. her cost would be around $150 all up, including the extra charge for drinks there. ours would have been around $300 (5 adults + drinks). also mil and fil who lived on a pension would find that too much, tho we could have split their cost between us and sil/bil...add another $65 or so to each our bills. this all seemed fine for sil. i was gobsmacked. all that for one meal. when at home tho there is all the cooking/cleaning, we also get all the leftovers, afternoon tea, unlimited drinks, most stay on for a late supper (summer here and still light til around 9pm) and the pool for a swim to keep cooled off. as well as the park out back if anyone has the need for a bit of exercise or a game of bat and roll. we'd also be better off $wise with all that. i told her thanks but no thanks. mil and fil ended up coming here for xmas day, sil/bil/family was also invited but she declined. oh well. cant please everyone all the time. j.
