mental block

I have at least 5 baby quilts to make and have lost my enthusiasm atm. Its maybe because I know I have to. I have 3 fabrics which are all nearly the same turquoise background ( the colours look totally diferent in my webshots), I cant seem to think of. 1 a pattern and 2 a good colour to go with them I have made a handbag to sooth my troubled brow.lol. Now have to find a sparkly person to give it too. I love making bags.

Well, I have one idea you might like Estelle. I saw another marvellous tie design on television the other evening. The man was being interviewed, so I had a good long time to work out the design! Basically it is a log cabin design. You can use as many or few logs as you wish. You can use your feature fabric in the centres, and also in the corners of alternate blocks - I'll explain.

One log cabin block set straight; adjacent log cabin block (smaller) set on point in the same size square, so the corners are filled with fabric of perhaps more interest than the fabric for the logs. The whole quilt (or tie >g

warm Wishes is always quick and easy. You may have something in your stash that will go with those fabrics -- or if they're nearly the same color, use all 3 in one quilt. Or try nine-patches alternating with snowballs. Or make a quilt that is just one big block -- a big 9-patch or any other block you enjoy making. Or try this super-size 9-patch

Those duckies are just calling out to me for a Warm Wishes quilt... cut them into 6 1/2" squares -- then for the alternate blocks -- use your dots fabric in the center - and put a bright turqouise on one side... and a yellow or orange on the other! Would be lovely!

Navy would be lovely, as would a dark green (my forever standby for awkward colours!!). . In message , Estelle Gallagher writes

Great fabrics, Estelle. Colors to go with them: look at the color dots on the selvedge. That shows the colors used in the print, and always a good way to choose coordinating colors. Also, brown goes well with blue, especially (in my opinion ) with turquoise. So does silver/silvery grey.... think of jewelry, southwest style. Or copper.

As far as a pattern goes.... Warm wishes, rail fence, single Irish Chain, 9-patch and snowballs, and so many more which are very nice and simple to do.

Relax and have fun, Pati > I have at least 5 baby quilts to make and have lost my enthusiasm atm. Its

I love working with turquoise fabrics. Of course yellow seems always to go with any turquoise. Baby quilts are also something I seem to do a lot of. In looking at your fabric choices they are lovely and need something to bring them out. My eye says 'bright orange' maybe a tone on tone brighrt orange with a muted orange thread. Another color thought is a very bold or deep turquoise that lets the more muted softer turquoise that you have come forward when placed in blocks as a secondary color? Just a couple thoughts. Of course I can't really tell the size of those duckies. But if they are on the larger size they can always be cut as 'fussy cuts' for the center of a block. Again just another thought. julia

We've just finished one which has crazy patches of predominantly turquoise colours (ranging from definite green to definite blue) sashed with strong plain primary red. It's for our bed so we didn't put any batting in it (too hot). The seams of the patches are coverstitched with decorative stitches in mainly-turquoise variegated thread. It looks pretty dramatic and the cats like it. Would something like that work?
