Tennessee Waltz Qult pattern question

I've been trying to figure out what my next project will be. I"ve always liked the Tennessee Waltz quilt so that's my next biggie. Probably queen size. Besides, I need to have my next "wedding quilt" going....just in case. My neice is pregnant and there could quite possibly be a small let's-get-married-wedding before the baby comes in March. Oh ya.......I'm going to be a Great Auntie for the first time Everyone is so excited about the baby too.

Back to my question!! How many different colours are there is the TW? I don't have the pattern but not hard to figure it out as it's a variation of the 54-50 or Fight which I have done. But I want to get the colour scheme figured out so I can calculate yardage.

So far I think I have things figured:

background colour (lighter fabric) used for the snowball block and the star point background and 2 squares of the 4-patch.

the colour used for the star points.....is that colour used again elsewhere?

Are the remaining 2 colours in the four-patch and the Snowball corners and the star center square the same?

I've searched and looked at pictures but not sure of what's what..layout wise LOL

Ann.....who knows it wouldn't matter to use 6+ colours!!!

There is a pattern for a Tennesse Waltz quilt in Judy Martin's book "Scrap Quilts". The snowballs are white. The centers of the stars are medium/dark scrappy four-patches. The star points are dark. The background for the star points and the corners of the snowballs are tan. The four-patches in the "chains" are white and medium/dark scraps.

There is a Quilt-in-a-Day book for Tennessee Waltz, too, but the pictures of the book cover look like it has three colors: the star points are dark red, the star centers & snowball corners are blue, the snowballs are white, and the chains are blue and white.

Thanks Julia. Been looking at the pictures that I have found online and most pics aren't clear enough to see what's what.....or maybe it's just me getting my mind around the layout. After I posted I found this

which gives a better pic to see the colour scheme. I like this one better than the quilt in a day pic as the star background and snowball points are the same colour, giving the "chains" a thicker look. Totally a matter of preference I guess.

I have calculated yardage for a dbl/queen and I just h>> How many different colours are there is the TW?

The Tennessee waltz part of these quilts is 3'x4'. For that part I used the following:

I needed one yard of the "focus" fabric. This was for the 6 - 12.5" squares of the snowball blocks, and strips for the insets of the points of the stars.

The points of the stars required two 5" strips of 42" fabric.

Mixed fabrics for the little squares in the chains so no exact measurement other than using 2.5" squares.

The corners of the snowballs were 4.5" squares (sewn on the diagonal and trimmed), so I needed two strips of 4.5" white fabric for the corners of the 12 squares. And a couple strips (2.5") of white to create the four patches w/ the mixed fabric squares.

Six 4.5" squares of special fabric for the centers, which could be cut out of one 4.5" strip or fussy cut like these were.

Since I was in production mode on these, I made templates for the star points and the triangle between them. Much easier to cut them out of strips that way...

Hope that helps!

Wow Cappy those are gorgeous!!!! Very nice. Sat here trying to figure out why your snowballs "popped" All in the layout. and colour choice.

Last night I calculated yardage for a Dbl/Queen size and pulled out my fabric. I had to work around two colours as I needed lots of 2 of the colours....not a first choice if for me, but will work well I hope. White snowballs, Med Dark dusty rose for the star points Dark gray for the star centres Teal-gray for the snowball corners and star inset. Light gray (with a hint of pink) and the white for the 4 patch

Can't wait to get started. Day off today so I think I will spend part of the day cutting.
