Patti Reed Jungle Babies quilt ideas?

My friend is expecting her first grandchild, and we are all so excited, for many reasons... and her DD loved the "Patty Reed Jungle Babies" fabric, so I have both the all-over print and the fabric with individual animals in 'boxes' .... but can't think about a baby quilt design to utilize the fabrics. I've made many baby quilts, including alphabet appliques, stack and slash and other delightful designs, but I need some inspiration to use these two fabrics, and I'm quite willing to buy additional fabric (always!) to enhance any design. Mom- to-be is favoring the sage color in the fabric. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance, Gwen in SE PA

I've tried a few things for pictorial fabrics. You don't say what size the 'boxes' are? If they are about 6" or so +/- , you could a nice Attic Window. If they are small you could use them as the centre (albeit largish) of a Log Cabin or one of the fairly easy square-centred stars (can't think of appropriate names at the moment, as I'm not really into stars - sorry Karen!!) . Depending on the size of the "boxes", make stars with those in the the centers, a complimentary for points and background. Use the all over print as boarders. Stars are always good.

She used a pattern in 'Clever Quilts, Making the most of panels, borders and Theme Prints' by Susan Teegarden Dissmore. The one in the book used Teddy Bears quilting fabric and more subdued colours, so you can adadpt the basic idea as you wish.

It was so unusual, and I had been looking at this book and wondering whether to get it every time I went to my LQS, so I did.

I am about to start a different quilt to Donna's - mine has country animal and bird pictures and uses border prints in the main body of the quilt. The pattern in the book used Christmas Prints or a 'great outdoors' one

I can thoroughly recommend this book (NAYY!). Once you have it you will be able to choose more fabric too!! It has some really good ideas and I am finding that I look at novelty prints and borders with new eyes, in fact when I ordered some plain black fabric yesterday I really had to shut my eyes to them.

DH is going away for 10 days tomorrow, so I can really spread out and quilt like mad!

I think I am pleased with my book - don't you!

I don't know how big your animals in boxes are but I did this baby quilt from a panel. The pattern is "Q is for Quilting" from the book "Clever Quilts".

is there anyway you could add some different tactile blocks or pieces on whatever design you decide on. i was thinking chenille here and there would be nice for a baby. chenille flowers, butterflys, caterpillars. should be more than a few of that kind in the 'jungle'. sorry, i'm not familiar with that design. they love to fondle fabric too and ya cant start that too young, eh. :)) i'm sure there are other touchy type techniques that elude me at the moment. jeanne design to utilize the fabrics. I've made many baby quilts, including

We are plugging the book well Donna! My boxes are only the small 4" ones, so I went for the Snowflake pattern, and my other main fabric is border. I had been hanging over this book for ages and actually ordered it from Abe Books so got it at a very good price, as quickly as I would have been able to have time to go to the not-very-local QS, and the postage equalled the cost of the petrol, so I was doubly or even tripply happy.

I have accumulated quite a number of novelty fabrics that I couldn't see how to use - now I have lots of ideas of what to do with them.

Thanks, Jan. I embroidered the label on my Bernina 200.

I used something similar for my daughter's baby quilt with a focus fabric:

if you don't like it so busy, you could substitute the background fabric for a solid and only use the print for the centers. I chose the 12 marbled fabrics from the colours in the butterflies.
