OT: New Cat Baby Update

Hi Guys, Well, things are moving right along with the two new cat babies. IvyJane (the Garbanzo Brain Stealth Kitty) is still trying to act like she's a scardy cat. In actuality, she's just skittish. She still won't allow me to get any closer than about 5 feet but she's out and about almost all day long. She likes to hang out under our bed (a BIG change from hiding so well that we couldn't find her) or sit on the dining room chairs in the sun or sit in front of the bedroom window that looks out onto the backyard. DH and I have decided that in a few more weeks, we will need to corral her in our bedroom and then transfer her to the jack & jill bathroom to keep her in one spot. She hasn't been to see the Baby Dr. yet and she needs some shots soon. She is getting along nicely with Bunnie and I haven't noticed any sort of problem between her and Cassie (Baby Cat) who is ruling queen in this house by right of living with us for over 11 years now! It's a whole 'nother story with Bunnie (Chunkybutt Cat). She's a lover AND a fighter!!! She "has words" with Cassie at least once a day and they woke me up twice last night! Bunnie had her first visit to the Baby Dr. yesterday and was given an almost clean bill of health. The only problem is that she is fat, Fat, FAT and I mean REALLY FAT!!! She tipped the scales at FOURTEEN POUNDS which is at least four pounds more than she should weigh! When we got her we were told she was on kitty diet food and the vet said to keep her on that. We both think that being out of a cage and having the opportunity to be active and play and get loved on as much as she wants will do as much for her as the diet food :-). She does like the idea of two sets of stairs -- up one and then down the other several times a day chasing heaven only knows what sorts of kukui's -- LOLOL! All I can say is that I am extremely pleased with the progress both kitties have made. I was most worried about IvyJane (Stealth Kitty) because she is so shy & skittish but she is getting a lot friendlier for only having been with us for a week! Bunnie (Chunkybutt) is a shoo-in for a love kitty as soon as she gets things ironed out with Cassie. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Thank you, Mary. I needed that. I have been attempting to empty out 2 kitchens and the sewing room for 10 days and it was wonderful to escape to your precious update. Our tv is bombarding us with wanting everybody to go rescue a pet and donate to their agencies. I'm just so glad that you've been able to share your lives with those precious kitties. I am. Polly

Me too. I never thought anyone could compete with Kate D's 'Cornflake' but ' Garbanzo Brain Stealth Kitty' ought to do it. Polly

I bet you can imagine what I call Bunnie (Chunkybutt Cat) to her face! It's not suitable for posting here. If you have ever known a tortoiseshell cat, you would understand why we call them garbanzo brain cats. They are the smartest troublemaker cats we have ever been owned by. We had one named Sheeba who taught herself to unlock & open both the 6 foot wide sliding arcadia screen door and glass doors in our bedroom! I kid you not! One day we watched Sheeba do this, going back to the bedroom every few minutes to see her progress. She would jump up and hang from the glass door handle by one paw and swipe at the lock with the other paw until she got it undone then she would get her little claws into the side and work at that until she got the door open a little bit. Next she would get her whole paw in the gap and push and push until it was open about a few feet (she needed enough room to operate, ya know!). Then she would repeat the process with the screen door until both doors were open enough for her to get out! After that, we gave up and got a pet door made for an arcadia door way. We had a 6 foot block wall around the back yard and for some unknown reason, the cats were happy to stay inside it (good thing as we lived on a corner lot and had neighbors on one side and the street on the other)! Now -- long dog & cat story follows but it is fun :-). The only one who would climb the block wall was Taja, the female Siamese, and she only did that so she could sit on top of the wall and look into the neighbors yard and torment their German Shepherd. He did try to jump up and get her once but she swatted him on the nose making it bleed. After that she would get on top of the wall and walk from one end to the other, sit down and drape her tail over onto the dog's side. The dog (King was his name, I think) would come running out, give a few ferocious barks (he WAS ferocious and attack trained within the house and yard). Taja would get up, look at him haughtily and meander her way down the wall to the other end of the yard to sit and start the whole process over again. King would watch her, wait for her to get settled again, run around the yard barking and then come and sit below her. Once King settled down, Taja would wait a bit, sunning herself, lazily swinging her tail back and forth, back and forth tormenting the poor dog and then get up and meander back to the other end of the fence. Honestly, I think they both got so used to each other that they were friends and the whole thing was a game for them. King was a HUGE Shepherd and could have easily made a nice meal out of Taja in one well placed bite. He could have jumped that wall from a standing start and not even batted an eyelash but he never once threatened Taja after the first nose scratch. gOOD, AREN'T THEY. :)

The moglets sound like they are having fun. Our two are ten years old now and STILL do frantic Skitty Kitty round the place at least once a day.

I just posted a question about the kitties on the previous thread. So glad that Ivy Jane is out and about even if she is still shy. It's a big improvement for the short time you've had her.

As for Bunnie, with her "bodacious" personality, she probably thinks she queen of the house, and Cassie has to disabuse her of this notion. ;-) Glad she got a clean bill of health. I'm with you, having the chance to run and play will surely take the weight off of her.

Really enjoy your kitty updates. Keep them coming. :-)

Speaking of your torties and Sheeba who mastered the doors, my black cat (although I swear there's some Siamese under that black fur) has mastered our doors. He has no problem letting himself in by reaching up and grabbing the door handle. We soon learned that if you want privacy in the bathroom, you must lock the door. Nothing worse than being in midstream and having Charley throw the door wide open. ;-) LOL!

The reason I think he's hiding some Siamese heritage is that he is so talkative, and his meows have a Siamese quality to them. Plus he is incredibly mischievous. I've had a lot of tabbies and they were all much more laidback than my dear Charley. He's definitely got me trained. Yep, I'm the staff.

"Stealth Kitty" reminded me of a funny video on youtube (sent to me by my daughter a while back) ..... *drum roll* here is "Ninja Kitty":

That was a good one. It looked like the cat was playing "Red light, Green light".

I especially liked the way the "Ninja Kitty" turned tail and ran off to hide at the end :-). Cassie (Baby Cat) and Bunnie (the Chunkybutt Bodacious Miss B) had another argument today resulting in a big tuft of Cassie's profuse beige butt fuzz being left on the floor. Bunnie got a severe talking to while she thought she was hiding under the dining room table and Cassie got a few ear loves while she was hiding under the bed. VBS -- I do wish they would get their pecking order straight soon. These howling matches every 3 or 4 days irritate me and scare the beejeebers out of poor IvyJane (the Stealth Kitty).
