OT: Oslo, Norway

I know this is totally off topic, but my heart is crying and my understanding is failing.

This afternoon Oslo (Capital of Norway) was hit by terrorism, with several killed and a bunch of people in hospital with injuries.

Please join me in saying a prayer (or whatever you do) for the victims, their families and the nation - I know from a friend in Oslo (who is safe) tha they are all reeling.

Joining in prayer. When Mr. Esther asked me if I'd heard the reports I couldn't believe it. I didn't know there were terrorists interests in Norway. Polly

So often these days I think I've hit the limits of sadness my heart can feel. Then something like this happens ... Yes, Polly, I'm in that circle of prayer as well. Why Norway?

Early speculation (as far as I know no group has claim responsibility for the two actions) relates this to either or both of Norway's involvement in Afghanistan or Libya.

I guess this would make any participating country a potential target. There have been several foiled terror attempts in Denmark over the last couple of years, and still Oslo is so close in all ways, this is our back yard.

Scratch that - they now think it is possibly domestic, political terrorism rather than foreign/religous. They caught the shooter and he is known to the police.

My reaction exactly, Polly. Seems like now there doesn't have to be a real reason to be a target. So much mindless hatred ....how? and why? I know the answer I favour, but it is not for this place. . In message , Polly Esther writes

Yes, I heard this later this morning. But, over 80 children, that is pure evil. (Even worse without a cause...) . In message , Sandy writes

It is horrible! The only good thing that results from this, if I may put it that way, is that fundamentalists and right wing nationalists are harmed by the actions of this nutter. But all in all, the whole thing is too terrible to say more about it. I had a rather bad day today, with many personal downs, and this thing makes me dread for the life of my DD. One doesn't want to let the kids out of the house these days. But we have to. They have to go on living. I'm sorry, I'm not writing too good tonight, sorry. I'm just shocked.
