Glad to know that someone I 'know' will be on the cruise when I decide to press nine.

I have learnt that if you don't do anything then the computer will hang up.

Does your computer talk in English or Dutch ?

Ours is always English with and American accent.

I've been getting a string of phone calls I let the machine pick up -- my "loan" has been approved, or I've won a cash award (some calls of each variety), and all I have to do to have the money transferred into my account is to tap in the bank routing number and my account number! Well, I know better than that! If you get those calls and are tempted, NEVER give anybody that information, because it's all they need to empty your account.

Oh my! For those who have young'uns at home, I would suggest that all mail with that information be kept in a secure and secret location. It would be disastrous if a 'helpful' young teenager answered the phone and gave the information. A teen might be excited to win a prize and not realize the danger. "If it sounds too good to be true, it IS!" I don't know the attribution for that, but I agree. PAT in Virginia

Before we had cable, the 'puter had its own phone line. When I checked the phone bill one month, there was a long distance call charged to the 'puter's line. I call the phone company & brought it to their attention. Was told they would "allow it" & subtract it THIS ONE TIME!! I told them that it was the 'puter's line & IT was NOT allowed to make long distance calls!!

Nana....................glad for cable

I received a warning from my telephone server - if you press 9 you could be giving someone access to use your phone to make long distance calls!

It was a call in English with a distinct American accent.. We don't have those "computer" calls over here in Holland.. If and When someone calls to try to sell me something over here it will always be a "person".. and when you say: "no thank you" straight after they told you who they are and what they want .. they will hang up and won't bother you again.. In fact, i can't even recall when they last called me.. :-)

You can have my number. We have been inundated by an "unknown" caller (we have "caller ID" ) Sometimes, we get a HI HI and most of the time, it's dead silence but you can 'hear' their breathing. not loud--just there : ( We even tried putting the fax on for days at a time...but then you have to watch incoming calls and answer it early.

Butterfly, I don't like the sound of that. It could be a burglar checking to see if the 'coast is clear'. Perhaps I should send you a few gators to patrol the place; they love you, you know. Polly

Promise they'll keep the rabbits out of my lettuce garden? Even with a fence up, one rascal still got in.

If you go to

formatting link
& search for this, you will be able to see more detailed information about it. Yes, it's sort of true, but not for residential numbers. I believe it said there is a "possibility" it could happen to business numbers. It's not as bad as it initially sounds from the emails that are currently circulating.
