I appologise most profusely for going way OT but I'm formatting and setting up a computer for an elderly lady and I'm stuck as to which software to put on it for viewing and adjusting photographs. I use software that would be way beyond her like Photoshop so I was curious as to what all you lovely folk out there are using and find easy and uncomplicated. many thanks Wendy in Nsw
Irfanview used to be quite simple to use (and free!) Looking at the website it appears he's added a lot of features since I used it years ago but it still might be more straightforward than Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. (Plus it's still free so if it's not what you're looking for you won't lose any money on it.)
Don't know if you consider this uncomplicated, but my DH, the household geek, set mine up. In addition to Photoshop and another one I can't remember, I have Polyview. Doesn't do too much fancy stuff, but you can easily look at photos and make slideshows out of e.g. a CD-full. I also have Power Desk, one of my favorite programs. Shows absolutely everything in any directory, even the things an individual program says it can't find. All the program icons are lined up at the top of the screen, easy to drag any file to a program to open it, or just double click on a file. Unzips files with no fuss. And you can move or copy files to other directories by dragging and dropping, very straightforward for the technologically impaired. Roberta in D

I use Camedia for "tweeking" my photos. Notice I didn't say "geeking" as this is a simple program but it allows you to rotate, crop, enlarge, elimate redeye, and probably some other stuff that I haven't used yet. It came with my camera and I would guess that it is available as a stand alone product. It might be worth a look see.
I use Picasa2 which I got from Google. It is also free and does uncomplicated things. The reason I got it and not another program was that it is from a trusted source.
Now I *AM* a Photoshop geek, but I would have to second your opinion ... nothing equals Photoshop (either the pro version or Elements) in terms of compatibility, creativity, and versatility. I'm fair sure that PE is supposed to be very simple to learn .. only drawback is that it isn't free.
Goodness, thank you everyone, I got up this morning to all these fabulous suggestions, so now I'm going to download what I can and have a look at them..........that should keep me busy for a wee while. Might even find summat I'd like to use. The lady I'm setting up the computer for lost her husband about 4 months ago and then her computer died as well. Fortunately another friend of mine has just bought himself a new one, so we're "recycling" his old one. Thanks very much everyone.....much appreciated Wendy in Nsw
