OT Ping Bronnie

Hi Bronnie,

Had another message from a New York City gal who lives very close to the area you will be staying. Here are the great things she had to say about it:

Not far from me and a lovely area, right off Central Park West , near >subways , busses and the NY Historical society at 77th and the >Museum of Natural History between 77th and 81st and Central Park West. >Lots of restaurants in all price catagories. I am about a half mile >west of there and was raised just a few blocks from 11 W 75th at
17W >71st.

I know you didn't need to know this because your decision is already made, but her description sounded so cool, I had to share. :-)

I forgot to remind Bronnie about the Gray Line Hop On - Hop Off tour bus! It's a great way to get around the city and see all of the sights. There are three different routes to choose from. When I was in NYC for just the day last year in Feb. I took the most expensive tour (about $45 for a two day ticket). They have a bus leaving about every 10 to 15 minutes. You get on the bus and ride it to whichever stop you are interested in. Hop off the bus, have a look see at what you are interested in, go back to the stop and hop on the next bus that comes by and ride it to the next stop you are interested in. The less expensive tours (less than $10 cheaper) cover very specific areas of the city -- like Brooklyn or the Bronx -- not sure which areas. The more expensive tour goes through all of the "major" sights and allows you to transfer to the other two area tour busses. This means you get to see ALL of the tours if you want. On my tour, I stopped at the Empire State Bldg., visited Ground Zero, Wall St., Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty, Fifth Ave., Rockefeller Center, Central Park and loads of other stops that I didn't have time for. All in all, it was money well spent even though I only had about 7 hours to do the tour. I would do it again in a heart beat and I obviously recommend it very highly for anyone visiting NYC who wants to see as much of the "famous" stuff as possible. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Thanks Tia Mary for that; shall copy that info onto my planner sheet. Just starting now to plan the trip in detail. We will have about 5 weeks from mid Sept. starting in LA and finishing up with the week in NYC. I want to catch an opera at the Met that week - Der Rosencavalier is showing. Ticket sales for that don't open until mid August. Bronnie
