So far in my part of IL we've just gotten rain and flurries. (Thank God it didn't turn to ice/sleet--but then I haven't left to go to work yet, so I haven't been out.) But it is very windy. And COLD!

That's okay, Maureen - we got all the snow you didn't! I really don't know how much we have since so much of it's blowing around, but it was at least 12 inches deep on the deck when I went out to shovel a path for the puppy to go outside. She's loving all the white stuff, and I have to admit it doesn't bother me nearly as much as it did last winter since I don't have to go out to get to work! The way it's blowing right now, the driveway might be cleared off when we finally go out to plow.

I woke up at 3am and checked outside. It was absolutely gorgeous!!! The wind hadn't shown up yet and the trees were laden with at least eight inches of snow. It was quiet and peaceful. I stood outside in my bathrobe and bare feet to watch the snowplow go by and to breathe in some fresh air. Not for long, but enough to get refreshed. I don't keep the house very warm (66-67 degrees) but I still like get some fresh air in the winter. The wind has started up and I'm feeling quite cozy knowing I don't have to be anywhere today. One of the Weather Channel reporters was reporting just a couple miles from my house....that's always a good sign, huh? As long as the power stays on....we'll be just fine. My newspaper is lying at the end of the driveway. I think I'll watch the tv news and let it blow to someone else's house. KJ

We did too, but it's burning off already.

I'm thinking back over the two decades we've lived in this house, and the gorilla is plenty big already. Even 800 lb. gorillas have to stop to take a breath now & then...

Isn't New York grand? I can Just imagine what the thruway is like today. Probably slick as chicken sh**.

It just stopped snowing here, but now we have sleet. I hope it doesn't freeze......

At least a foot here and strong winds, so we have blizzard conditions. No travel recommended across the southern part of the state. Lots of schools and other stuff closed today. We're staying put!

20 inches in southern WI right now in our town and it's still snowing wet heavy stuff. We went out and cleared the drive and sidewalks and my arms feel like rubber bands. The snow is so heavy it's broken off one of our huge lilac bushes/trees at the base. I feel bad, we've had this lilac for at least 30 years. Spring looks a long way away. Donna

We had a few inches on the ground yesterday. Then early this morning it started raining, just drizzling, and didn't warm up at all. School was delayed 2 hours to give the salt and cinder trucks time to get the roads safe. Then it started raining in earnest, and we actually had thunderstorms while there was snow on the ground. Most of the snow is gone now, but we had enough thunder and lightening that you could smell the ozone inside the house. In December!

And you get alot of Lake Erie lake-effect snow don't you? we get Ontario lake-effect. Doc probly does too? amy in CNY(where it's raining a little now)

Sure do. We also pick up an edge of Buffalo's duel lake effect weather now and again. When the wind is south to SW we get it, when it blows east I'll bet Doc gets a touch, along with those folk here who are between. I live on the side of a hill just south of Chautauqua Lake. Chautauqua Lake is not big enough to have a noticeable impact on overall weather, but it is big enough to provide a nice big wall of humid air so that those of us around it get a little extra when it rains or snows. I always look forward to the lake freezing for the winter. It seems to be happening less and less or not at all though.

Anywhere along the south edge of Ontario is pretty freaky; things can bounce. Buffalo and Rochester may get dumped on with two feet, and Brockport will get two inches (and/or vice versa). North/south of the thruway can vary tremendously too. You can be driving through an area buried under several feet of white stuff, then suddenly within a mile or so you see grass peeking through... There are times I leave Rochester in sunny skies, drive west through 70 miles of whiteout, and arrive in Buffalo/Niagara to be greeted by sunny skies again.

However the worst place in the state by far is closer to Amy - the Tug Hill area east of Ontario and north of Syracuse.

There's that 800 lb. gorilla again... Bananas don't help - I've tried.
