OT: Sunday fires

We have the first wildfire of the season. It is just northeast of Los Angeles, about 1000 people evacuated right now. The hillsides are in a popular hiking area, and Boy Scouts had to be evacuated from their weekend camp. This is an area that has not burned in about 40 years. They anticipate it will take 2-3 days to get under control.

The temp right now is just over 90 here on the coast. Yesterday it reach 98.

There is an ugly old wife's tale that this is good earthquake weather.

We got a whiff of it last evening. Nothing going on here though. The news had a story of some couple having a wedding up in the area and 50 people had to be air lifted out. (a dog too) They are off to a hot start. It is supposed to cool off so that should help the firefighters. I guess it is an area that has 40 years of growth. Hopefully there are enough firefighters to really hit it hard and get control.

The Whittier quake in 1988 I was at work in downtown Los Angeles, the Northridge quake in 1994 was on Martin Luther King Day, the Loma Prieta up near Oakland in 1989 or 1990 I was at work in Los Angeles. Those are the last 3 big ones, but not the only big ones I have been here for.

Idiot wedding party, it was strongly suggested they leave, but the manadatory evacuation didn't include their area. Today they had to make five dangerous helicopter flights to get everyone out from that party.

Weather report I heard says it will be cooler a few degrees tomorrow, then much cooler > We got a whiff of it last evening. =A0Nothing going on here though. The
