OT: Surgery

I am not reading posts tonight to sleepy, but wanted to give you all an update.

I had my surgery today and I had torn cartilage so they did a Meniscus repair. Also had a torn ligament and it was repaired and lots of arthritis, which they scraped as much as they could out.

Just wanted to drop by and tell you all I am OK and doing fine and dandy with a little pain, but then I haven't had anything for pain since about 4 PM, but that was 10 mgs of morphine and it is now

11:30 ish, but getting ready to take something. I will be off the leg for a while but can put some weight on it as tolerated, but he said not to over do it and he would rather me keep as much off for the first two weeks as possible and keep it elevated.

Thanks for the prayers and the recipes, Love you all, Jacqueline

Glad you are doing well, Jacqueline! Keep that leg up and rest as much as you can! Prayers and good thoughts continue. Also check under "Magnolia Fabric" someone had some to give away (I think) and was looking for the person who really loved it!!

Glad your surgery went well. May you recover sooner than expected. You mention that they scraped away some of your arthritis. Never heard of that. Sure would love that. Mostly in my legs, right thumb and lower back. Carol

I'll add a p.s. to the above. Did your Dr. or Physical Therapist give you some (gentle) strengthening exercises for you to do? If they did, get right on them in a few days. I was amazed at how weak that leg's muscles got after the surgery. Thinking positive thoughts that you'll be up and around in no time. ME-Judy

I have to admit the pain with this surgery has been so much less than I expected or even was told it would be. My oldest sister and I were talking about it this morning. I walked without the walker the first night, although I wasn't suppose to be without it that quickly and that was the only time I did it. The pain was so much more severe when I had the fall than what this is that this is a piece of cake to be honest. I haven't had a pain pill all day long and don't expect to take one unless I do before I go to bed to help me rest better. I can't wait until tomorrow I get to take the bandage off and take a shower. Now I am just wondering if I put something over the stitches once I get the shower or do I leave it open. Anyone had a scope and can answer this question for me I would appreciate it.

There was two exercises on the paper they gave me and then I had been going to PT prior to the surgery and think that I can do those also. I started the two on the paper about the surgery the night I got home and am doing them 3-4 times a day. I am in hopes that I do not have to go to PT that I can just do it all at home, I will work hard at that because PT is 60 miles round trip and I just do not want to do that again right now.
