OT: The View

Just thought I would let you all know that 2 of my students are going to be on The View on Monday. They and their parents are to be part of a feature on autism. They have been in New York for the past 2 days taping their segment but should be back in school tomorrow. I can't wait to hear all about their adventures.

I will try to watch. My friend's 27 year old son tested for five points of autism. She says if he had tested for six points she would be able to get more help for him. It is so sad that such help has to be based on points. He is caught in that limbo of not able to relate enough to hold a job but too "normal" for the shelter workshops. If he were a little younger I think his schooling would have been much different.

That is really heartbreaking; I wish I had some worthwhile advice.

I am looking forward to seeing the program; the principal at out school has given us permission to watch the program Monday -- it will be interesting to see how the two boys react to seeing themselves on TV.

The twins' older sister has been giving me updates -- she says Rosie was terrific with the family. I am grateful.

Too bad he can't get help. My brother and SIL are down this weekend with their boys. The little one is autistic. He was getting 40 hours a week of therapy until he turned 3 and now he is in a full day special ed pre-school and still gets 10 hours of therapy a week. He is going fantastically-- he communicates very well, plays with his brother and my son nicely. He should be able to do "normal" things as he gets older because he got so much help as a little tyke.
