Happy Dancing! Go Blue!

Finally finished (a little late but... oh well) DH's Christmas present. A twisted bargello in maize and blue for his University of Michigan office! In the Kathy's Quilts album in my webshots albums.

I almost always send things out to be quilted -- and this made me remember why! While my piecing works out pretty well... my quilting NEVER quite measures up. Fortunately, the back will be to the wall! :-)

And besides... if anybody has enough time to stand and examine it that thoroughly -- DH needs to give them more work to do! LOL

That's absolutely beautiful, Kate. I love it. One of my very early quilts was a bargello - I really enjoy the technique. I always meant to do a more complex one like yours, but haven't yet >g< It'll have to go to the back of a very long queue, unfortunately; but yours has inspired me to at least put it there. Thank you - it's really lovely (did I say that yet?). . In message , Kate G. writes

Beautiful! Lucky DH! Also enjoyed the rest of your quilts while I was there. Wow! Makes me want to spend the day sewing! The wedding star is one on my list of projects to do, but everytime I've thought it was time to start one, I've got bogged down trying to pick fabrics. I really like the way your choices went together!

I purchased the pattern -- but the more I read it the more confused I got. Then a LQS offered a class for this quilt... "with a technique to make it easily!"

I signed up ... and it really wasn't too terribly complicated the way they broke it down. You took

20 fabrics and sewed them together so you had about 6 or 8 pieces that ran from 1-20. Then you cross cut them at varying widths. (they had a cheat sheet) Then you sewed them back together. You occasionally had to split strips (those 1-20 cross cuts) -- but all-in-all.... found it VERY do-able!

This was the Judy Neimeyer (is that spelled right) paper-pieced pattern. I was truly amazed that it really came together (all those points) without too much fussing and fidgeting. It really is a pretty pattern -- and my long-arm quilter did a FANTASTIC job quilting it. I"m not sure the photo does is anything close to justice on the quilting!

Very nice! I've often thought about making one of these. I have made a bargello heart - is it much different?

Thanks for the encouragement. That is the pattern that I have.

The photo did not do anything to show off the quilting, as I didn't even notice it.!

Piggy backing here. That IS a great quilt! It would look even better in Black and Gold (Hawkeyes) :-) I'm working on a simple small bargello in a black and gold Asian print combination (a Sweet Treats kit). I'm not sure I could manage that wonderful twist pattern. I agree with you on the piecing /quilting dilemma. I'm a good piecer and a pretty mediocre quilter. I always feel like I'm "ruining" my piecing with my quilting. KJ
