Got my Double Wedding Ring (Lauren's Wedding Quilt - you can see it in my webshots album before quilting) back from the long arm quilter in Minnesota. She does SUCH wonderful work... unbelievable. Now to bind it. But before that create about 30 feet of bias binding to go around all those curves. Oy Vey! :-) I'll try to get some good pictures of the quilting -- but I always have difficulty with that.
I also have finished piecing the top of my Kimono Quilt (you can see it in my webshots album). The kimonos were paper pieced -- quite fun to do. I used fabrics from the Fairy Frost Line with the Orientals -- the "shimmer & sparkle" in the Fairy Frosts worked PERFECTLY with the Orientals. The background is also Fairy Frost.
For those that do not read Japanese -- the Kanji words are (from top to bottom) Friendship, Joy, Happiness, Peace, Courage, Luck and Love.
The border was more than a bit of a challenge. First there were about 80 4" drunkards path blocks. Alternated and set on point. I had purchased the curvemaster foot -- but it doesn't attach to my Pfaff (or if it does, I haven't figured it out.) This was NOT from a pattern -- so I didn't know what the lengths of the border would be until after it was completed (with mitered corners no less). So couldn't finish the "interior" of the quilt until I knew what those measurements would be. Talk about working backward.
I'll be teaching a class in paper-piecing the kimono blocks -- we'll be doing the "main portion" in the class - not the border. I will be supplying the Kanji patterns to the students -- and we'll do fusible appliqué with machine satin stitch.
So the Part One part of my dance -- major progress on two major projects -- but neither completely finished. However, finishing is on the horizon now of both!
