OT: Theft

Yesterday I went grocery shopping. I was gone maybe 2 -1/2 hours. When I got home I noticed that someone had taken one of the wheels I have my BBQ sitting on. It is a big round kettle type, the legs were pretty wobbley so DH stacked up those 3 old aluminum wheels off our 18 wheeler and the bbq fits perfectly. This morning my sister came in the house and noticed the two wheel BBQ stand. Pretty obvious since they threw the bbq right in the walk. When I went out with my coffee at 10 they had been back for the second wheel. Which means that sometime between 6 am and 10 am they had been in here. I called the Sherriffs office, they are going to check around. The very idea that they have been in here, in full daylight, stealing things, it makes me want to go stay somewhere else. I won't of course, I would hate to make it any easier than it already is.

Sending big hugs!! That sounds like no fun. I can tell you that Costco sells some wonderful and affordable camera/dvr sets. Ours networks so that we can watch and record from a remote location as well. Just the cameras alone will slow some down. If nothing else you have evidence to give the sherriff to work with.

So sorry to read about this. It is such a violation of your personal space. Some people are totally amoral.

Glad you and your family were not harmed. Linda in Tx

There's nothing quite like the feeling of betrayal that's the result of someone coming into your home/yard and stealing something -- or even just rifling through your things. My sympathy is with you, and I hope they catch the jerk(s).

eeeeeeeeeek!!!!!!!!!! ok, this is just not on. there must be someway to save the last one from disappearing and maybe even catch the sh*theads in the process. rig it up with some hidden noise maker so when its touched you'll know about it and it drops a big old bucket of something wet, smelly and with bright coloured dye on their head as well. then you can follow the scent/colour, find them and let the police deal with it. we've had our home broken into one time and it totally freaked me out for quite a while. its just plain rotten. i wonder how they'd feel if the same thing was done to their home/property. there sure are some scumbags in this world, eh. {{{{{{{{{{{{Vikki}}}}}}}}} jeanne

Yuk, Vikki....... that's creepy! Do you have any canine QI's you can "let outside" if something is amiss? Makes me want to go hug my Dobie and my Lab and tell them what good boys they are!! I'm so sorry..... hope they catch 'em!!

no QI's even though my neighbor has about 40 that bark when someone pulls in here. I didn't even notice that. The idea that they would risk coming in here for a couple of worthless aluminum wheels. Not once but twice. A camera is a good idea. Thanks...

Another reason why I'm happy with it is when hubby travels.... which is a lot, I can look outside, without leaving my room or the house for that matter. No going outside for a confrontation. If they came inside, another story, but I'm not up for what was that sound and going out to check it out. ;-)

I'd lay bets the wheels got sold to a re-cycler place. There is a lot of aluminum in a transfer truck rim. I'd hide that other rim before it disappears. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Umm, might have been no barking because the neighbor's dogs know and trust the thief. Aluminum wheels are not worthless, even cracked ones can be sold for money. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Thanks Debra, I didn't know till I talked to DH tonight that the metal in the wheel is worth about a dollar.eightyfive a lb. I also didn't know he had good wheels sitting in the barn. so now i need to go out there and see if those are still there. Darn, of all the jobs I hate. If I had known they were worth that much for scrap I might have sold them myself :~}

The only thing better than a nice heavy chunk of solid aluminum is a nice big barrel full of tightly twisted plain copper wire. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Plant Prickly Pear Cactus outside the windwos. I have that in front of 2 of my windows...even the alarm guy said nobody would tackle those windows...if so with pain...... Pami

I'm surprised but not. Apparently scrap metals of all varieties are selling well these days. Someone stole the downspout on our building.

Good luck getting them back. But if I were you, I'd start thing about plan B. Can you prop it up on bricks. Bricks seem like they'd be less attractive to theives.

There was a big story on our local news that thieves are ripping out the copper plumbing and copper phone wires from new construction homes in the area. They even have the nerve to climb onto the roofs of churchs and office building to steal A/C parts. When the stuff is sold, the buyers are not held accountable for buying this stolen stuff. The Dallas Police Department has just created a "stolen metals investigator" to catch these people. I can't even state "now I've seen everything!" because tomorrow will bring new surprises.

Yup... they've been stealing bronze statues in addition to the a/c etc here. Amazing isn't it...... just think if they worked harder at a legit cause how far they could go

Yesterday there was a story about urns for flowers at gravesites being taken. They cost $250 and the thieves get about $10 for them as scrap metal. big sigh!
