OT This thing with kid's clothes is getting even stupider

I went with kiri to Wal-Mart for cat litter and baby wipes. As we were wiggling through the baby section I darn near got smacked in the face with what is possibly the most idiotic bit of toddler apparel I have seen yet. Believe it or not, Daisy Dukes in sizes 1-4T.

Jeez what next? Newborn size tube tops? Who the heck buys this junk?

and THIS is why I make mopst of my kids' clothing. Remember a while back there was a discussion about thongs for elementary school kids?? At least I think it was this group, might have been alt.sewing. As to who buys them, come visit me and I'll introduce you to the neighborhood....trailer park across the street, where pedophiles and druggies reside (yes, proven by the police records) and the family that lives across the street from our back yard...oldest son proudly sports a belly like his daddy over shorts/pants that reveal WAY too much butt crack to be legal!

Take a stroll over to the kiddies underwear section, and check out the toddler 'bikini briefs.'. I'm not kidding.....

And we wonder why men view us as sex objects...

Oh, but I saw the most darling little cowboy shirt there! I am going to buy one and I got no one to fit it to. I just loved it. Real old timey fabric.

Cute!

Not long ago, in the Sunday newspaper pile of store ads, there was a store ad for kiddy swimsuits. (A fairly large chain, but I am not sure which one.) The photo showed a 4 or 5 year old girl wearing a bikini that had the waist band MANY inches below her navel. IOW, her entire tummy area and almost her personal area was on display. Who buys this?? Whatever next! Also saw these on British TV, saying that they were coming over from US.

Again, who buys this stuff! My DDs couldn't bare to where shoes, still have problems with them walking barefoot around the place!

I was watching the Women's British Open Golf Tourn. on tv the other day and they showed one of the lady pros hitting a ball and her follow through swing ...her shirt wasn't tucked in and we got a great view of her tummy and belly button and a couple of inches below that -- I thought this was a bit much..also a lot of the younger ones wear quite short shorts golfing. Strangely enough the Pro men keep their shirts tucked in and have to wear slacks !

I haven't seen those before. That's just bizarre. I'd never have learned to walk if I had those put on my feet when I was a toddler. Debra in VA See my quilts at:

They are just for babies. Not for walking children at all. Basically they are a fabric sculpture that looks like a high heel....just for giggles.

Someone will buy them for a shower gift I'm sure ...just for laughs !...Someone with too much money on their hands Whew..$35.00 !!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that's the bigger part of the equation IMHO. If they were $10....it would be worth the giggle. $35 is a good chunk of change for a funny piece of "clothing". I sent the link to my shopaholic SIL and she wished she'd seen them when her granddaughter was born. So see? There are people who will buy them!

Have you walked through the little girls' departments of Target or Wal- Mart or any of the other big stores? Underwear in sizes for 4 or 5 year olds with "Juicy" written across the bottom. And gym type shorts with the same. Also shorts, sweat pants (cut very, very low) with "Hot to Trot) across the bottom. And all aimed at little girls younger than

  1. And selling well.

We all gasp at the tasteless clothing that little girls (and "tween" girls) wear, but every piece was bought by a parent. I've had moms of little girls tell me that they couldn't say no, that their daughters would have a fit and demand to have an article of clothing. Well. My son had a pretty big fit demanding a motorcycle when he was around 10. He didn't get one. I even had one mom say that if she said "no" her daughter would just order it online. Ok, who lets a young girl have a credit card, Paypal account, Ebay account or unfettered access to the computer?

Just a bit of a rant. Sorry. I have real problems with this, as you can perhaps tell.

DH worked in the clothing industry (retail end) for 30 years....... the manufacturers put out what the public buys. They aren't about to produce stuff that sits on the shelf and retailers won't buy what sits. Don't like it? Don't buy it. And encourage others to not buy.

Heelarious Shoes

Ah, c'mon, the description says "soft crib shoes ... for infants size 0-6 months".

"Extremely funny, completely soft shoes for babies0-6 months designed to look like high heelsNot intended for walking (heel will collapse with weight). Not intended to harm children in any way." They're cute! If they had some in "ruby slippers" design *I'd* buy them.

Last time I was in the baby department at Wally World was to pick up a dollar off the floor (It pays to shop at WalMart, right? ;) ). Fortunately, I don't have a reason to shop in the baby department now, not that I ever really did but I had a diaper pail I used for Amber's potty pads. Walmart brand. They've since stopped carrying the inserts for it and the other two brands they carry don't fit their pail so it went out to the trash (made no sense to me that they stop carrying their brand of stuff but that seems to be the trend...the potty pads I've found that I like happened to be marketed for WalMart and yet, they are considered "seasonal" at the moment so they aren't on the shelf but maybe twice a year according to the company that makes them. They are trying to get them on the shelf all the time, but that probably won't be until sometime next year, if then.)

Went and looked at the Heelarious shoes. Can someone tell me the difference in the Sophie and the Elle styles? Looked exactly the same to me, not that I'm going to buy any.

The first thing I intend to buy my first grandchild is a pair of handmade beaded moccasins. I don't care what DD thinks about the way I used to dress her :-)
