OT: Tomorrow hopefully nerve pain goes away!

Tomorrow afternoon I have my "procedure". It's called an InterLaminar Epidural Steroid Injection. I had 3 kids and never had an epidural... but I'll get it tomorrow!!!

For those like me who aren't not medically savvy, basically they numb me and immobilize me (but keep me fully awake!) and stick a needle into my neck at the C7 juncture and then "spray" steroids on the spot where the nerve is causing the problem.

So keep your fingers crossed that all goes well... and that the treatment solves the problem! I sure hope it does! They say it take 5-7 days to realize the full benefit but hopefully I'll notice something sooner than that! I've been a walking pharmacy for over a month. I want to throw away all of those pain pills... and hopefully will not need them again any time soon!

Wowzer, Kate. I don't like the part about being fully awake. I do hope you're at least able to have some 'happy' pills or 6 or 7 Margueritas. OTOH, how wonderful that they've found a solution for you. How gloriously, blessedly wonderful. Yesssss. We will be holding you close in our hearts and up in our prayers. 'Well' for Christmas! Yesssss. Polly

Best of luck with that, Kate! While it sounds rather uncomfortable, it certainly sounds better than what you've been going through.

This sounds really well thought out - so, hopefully, it will be just the answer. You won't care what they do, if it means you'll be free of that pain >g< Good luck! . In message , Kate G. writes

Been there done that...good luck....it was a great relief, but not instantaneous. Also It wasn;t a cure for me...had an op 2 months later. Any relief though is worth the hassle & weirdness. I would do it again.

I go to have that done in the lower right said of the spinal column on Friday next. I ended up having 3 procedures with the 3rd burning the ends of the nerves on the left side 2 yrs ago. I have NOT, emphasizing __NOT__ , had pain in that area since..been 2 full years now.

So don't panic if you have residual pain from it being sooo sore for soo long. AND don't be surprised if they want to do a 2nd round. DO IT. It is soooooo worth it.

I'm pleased they are going 'shots first' before surgery.

IF her procedure is along the lines of what I had, they'll give her happy juice, but she HAS TO BE AWAKE, so they can get the correct place. It'll tingle--more like hitting your crazy bone. She shouldn't have 'pain', as she knows it ,during the procedure. They can always add more happy juice, if necessary. Yes, I've had it in the cervical area, also.

Butterfly (my 2nd time, I wasn't as nervous, so I didn't need as much happy juice)

Good for you, Kate! Sending lots of good healing thoughts in preparation for the procedure.

Like you, I would vastly prefer to heal rather than keep taking pain pills and muscle relaxers!
