OT Webcams

Does anyone here have an inexpensive webcam that they use with success? DH is traveling some and I thought it might be a good solution for DD & he to be able to talk at night....

I'll second that one. Logitech makes a webcam specifically designed with Messenger in mind, works pretty good, no microphone or earphones needed, works with your speakers, and runs about $50-60 here in Canada. HTH! Michelle

my logitech works great and paid $75 for it in new zealand. you will need a microphone tho. i got headset (speakers and mic in one) like madonna :) for only $15 here. i've used both on yahoo msg'r. i prefer that to msn but thats just me. have fun, jeanne

Hi Jan, My friend has a webcam that cost $30 and works great. Sorry I can't recall the brand. It was very easy to set up too.

We have two Logitech webcams in our house and everyone seems happy with them.

oh yea, Jan. the logitech also works as a still camera, tho has to be hooked up to the puter so its only useable for distances within the length of the cams cord, just measured mine like i do fabric and tis a wee bit over 2 yds long. the cam itself is shaped like an eyeball about 3 inches across mounted on a tripod unit that allows various positions for the camera to aim and has a focus ring on the front of it around the 'eye'. tis very clever and compact, oh and pretty indestructible. should be safe with a 3yo around, lol. cheers, jeanne

Ok all this talk about WebCams and I just had to get one. I bought a Logitech. It has a built in microphone too. It was easy to install and set up. I got to "see" and "talk" to my friend Jeanne. What fun!!!

We should set up a group for this activity too. Linda in Tx

not this jeanne tho. what fun eh. we do have a few of us who chat on yahoo msg'r regularly. the webcam only works when its one to one. we start a conference with a few of us all at once, then voice gets out of hand so we just type. there is a wee gap between talking and it reaching you. also if two talk at once they can blank each other out, oh well, thats satellites for ya, eh. :( my cam doesnt have a mic in it, how rude!!) not that it matters i got my headset, soon as i fix my puter so i got any sound here at all. oops. cheers, jeanne

lol.. he leaves very shortly so we needed it to be quick.... was kicking myself for not having the idea sooner.... but hey... it's working out :-) and yup... a 3 year old does not grasp that dad can't see her on the phone nor does she manage phone calls well... the computer... she is really into... scary but true.... and he travels pretty regularly so it will be a nice addition.

yes phone call - it's what used to be voice when 2 people were talking in a normal IM window. yahoo changed it from voice to "call" when it updated the messenger to version 7. Yes the "calls" are still free :-D
