Pick just one t hing

Here's the situation:

A: In August I'm going to a 5-day design seminar taught by Rosalie Dace. Instructions are to bring as much and as varied part of our stash as we can. Value difference is the key.

B: Tomorrow DH and I are traveling a short way to a Crane Festival (the flying type, not the building machines) and to get there we will go through Ephrata, where the best fabric store in Washington State is located. DH has suggested a loooooooooong stop there. He knows me well

C: We just paid taxes.

Question: What should I buy to maximize what will be a relatively low- spending event? This place has just about everything.

What color, theme,or print size do you have the LEAST of. Increase that area. Get something that you normally 'ignore'

Well you'll have to evaluate your stash to start off with. Personally, I would definitely look out for things that read light, but aren't white or cream and buy in small quantities. I would also look out for any charm packs or other groups of small quantities that have a wide range of values (which they often don't in my experience). I'd look for interesting darks as well. Sounds like with it being a design seminar, you are looking for swatches rather than quantities, what pops into my head is along the lines of an expansion of some articles I've seen on picking a palate from an inspiration fabric, which when done well seems to require range of value, range of colour and range of texture (appearance of texture, I mean, rather than actual), so that might mean keeping an eye open for things out of your normal range in tone on tones, so I know I have a tendency to gravitate towards vaguely floral and would need to try and include more geometric patterns, such as dots or scallops.

If I'm understanding correctly what the seminar is, I'd watch out for when they have FQs for 99c in Joanns, as a way of expanding what you have to work with.

If I can only buy one thing, then it'S either a really BIG piece of something I love, or a pack of FQs with one of every color in the same design. Roberta in D
