who holds the record

Who holds the record around here for number of hours the mini-iron was accidentally left on while not in use?........

For my regular iron - all day and there was one time all day and all night!

Which is why now I buy one with an auto shut-off, even if they aren't as good as others. I've done that more times than I am willing to admit.

Nah, I'm not responsible for the iceshelf breaking off. This was several months ago that I left it on that long!

I left mine on for 3 1/2 days - well, it could have been more, but it burnt up. LOL Had to buy another, I'm glad they are cheap.

I left my clover iron on accidentally and at the end of the day when I got home it had burned a hole in some 50/50 fabric it was touching without burning down the house. whew.

Overnight! DH added a cardboard sign at eye level to the exit door of my sewing room. It says "Iron?" It makes me check every time!

We all need to be aware of safety issues while we enjoy our stitching. So, I recommend using a surge protector for all the irons .... AND a lamp that is ON 'permanently' (while the surge protector is live. That way the bright lamp will warn you that the surge protector strip is live, and remind you to turn off the irons and the strip. Practice safe stitch!

Now that would work great! I sometimes leave my sm on when I leave the room, but at least now I have an iron that turns off automatically and am more faithful about turning off my new little iron.

The final solution: My sister gave up on remembering if she did or did not turn hers off so she simply took her iron to work with her. End of problem. Polly

I am sure that I have left mine on for at least a couple of weeks at a time. I have an auto shut off one though and all I have to do is move it down, then back up to turn it back on. Somehow, for some reason, that is SOOOOO much easier than just turning the little dial from OFF to COTTON LOL. I just turn it off when I am done for the day now.

No kidding, Kathyl. Two days in a row on her way to work, she had to turn around and drive back home to assure herself that the iron was off. Didn't happen the 3rd day. (She's just not the kind of person you'd want to mess with. You have been warned.) Polly

That's why I forgot to turn off my iron! I have it and a lamp (plus my sewing machine which some people says is a no no, but I've never had any problems) all plugged into the same surge protector. It was really bright that day and I turned off the lamp, so when I left my sewing room I completely forgot about the iron being on since the lamp wasn't on to remind me. Haven't done that since!
