Nice pattern. I like how it explains adding the weight. I'll be forwarding this one on. :) A.

I like this a Lot. I have one that doesn't have the pockets, and it is useful by the machine, but this takes it to a new level. Thanks for sharing.

I love these, but i think i would make the part under the pincushion that hangs over a little longer, or at least put a little non-slip drawer liner stuff under it. I have problems with the trash bag pulling the pin cushion off the table.

would the thread scraps and wee trimmings that go into the threadcatcher weigh much tho?

i wonder what else might work for nonslip propertys. hmm. a longer bit back over the table would also mean it would work better if you wanted to set it on the arm of a chair while working...with the threadcatcher hanging off the side of the chair...if that makes sense. just a thot. i wonder how adding another button (attaching at the vertical seams of the pockets so as not to mess up their holding powers) might help with the weight issue. could also maybe use those buttons to attach whatever other accessories one might find useful that could be made for various sewing activitys (no idea what those might be, just a thot that came into my tiny brain, as often does), i do like multi purpose things). i wasnt too sure about putting rice in the pincushion either. not sure what i'd put for weighting it that would also be ok for needles and pins to go into.

Corduroy. For no reason I know of, it's great for the bottom of things you want to stay put instead of slide. Polly

The jiffy-grip dotty stuff that is used for the soles of slippers & bootees?

I use sharp sand (the stuff you use in play sandpits) which works like emery on pins and needles. I usually add a little sheep wool too, which conditions the needles and pins (without making them greasy).

This mother's making one for herself! It's exactly what I've been looking for, Jeanne, how did you know?

To heck with work, I got to have me one of these!

goodness, just a fluke. my brain is too hot and flakey to 'know' this. dont forget some pix when you've got it made, oh and anything special or unusual not in the pattern that you did to make it your own. what'd ya stuff the pincushion with and any probs that arose from the pattern. j.

good idea, Sandy. no idea where i'd find those but i suppose i could try eating a mess of walnuts and save the shells, then crush'em up for that one. thanks for that one. j.

"Sandy" wrote ... Thanks, Jeanne. :) Mine is filled with crushed walnut shells. They give a nice "heft" to the thing and, combined with the non-slide shelf liner on the bottom, I haven't had any trouble with the bag/pincushion falling off the table when I'm using it.

Ok, I made it and decided the pin cushion was too big for what I need this thing for. I want it for traveling and workshops and such. So I took the pincushion off and started over. The bag was too big too, so I made a smaller on and decided to attach it from the back of the organizer, rather than from the front.

Only problem now is the pincushion doesn't weigh enough to hold the thing in place so I am making a sleeve on the back and sliding in these 1" wide flat duck decoy weights that DH had. They are made of lead and they will hold it, I think. The pincushion uses half the top. On the other half I put a square piece of cork that I cut from a coaster and made a pocket to fit. I think (it's only about 3" square) that I can use my tiny iron on this cork without hurting what's underneath. Keep in mind that I make mostly mini quilts. 3" of ironing space is nowhere near big enough for most of you.

I will try to get a picture tonight.

It's really cute.

Plus I have the original bag and pincushion to use at my table.

I used that crushed walnut crap to stuff the pincushions. I really like it. It adds some weight and bulk to the pincushions.
