Protocol on selling an item

What is the protocol for selling an item on this group?

Can you just say what it is and if someone is interested they should email you directly?

Can we do anything?

Thank you in advance,

Martha joysjane

The protocol is we don't sell items here.

But thanks for asking first!

There's a sewing marketplace group that we can sell on, but you aren't allowed to tell folk here that you are selling stuff on it. But don't worry: many of us keep and eye on the group and buy through it. I can't remember what the URL is... Hang on! rec.crafts.marketplace will find it.

I'm a little puzzled. When I was a newbie on this group many years ago, people did have permission to quietly post that they had something they didn't need and wanted to sell, as long as this wasn't a shop full of stuff. For instance, I bought my Bernina walking foot from someone on this group; she didn't ever use it and thought it was going to waste.

I'm not trying to open a can of worms here -- just curious about when it all changed.

last I heard was that you could say you had an advert on the market place but not mention what etc. just a simple: I posted an ad on the marketplace. this for members of the NG

When I joined (1999? 2000?) the FAQs said selling was a no-no.

Thanks for asking! This is a discussion-only newsgroup. ("Newsgroup" is the Usenet word for a discussion group.).=20

Use the marketplace newsgroup for selling your textile items (LOTS of us are on this group, so your add will be seen by many here):

---------- NAME: rec.crafts.textiles.marketplace CHARTER: This group is for selling, buying, trading, and "jobs offered/sought"=20 postings related to textiles and any of the textile arts. =20 Announcements of textile and textile arts business's web pages are also welcome. Individual, one-time transactions are welcome in this group,=20 as are commercial advertisements. =20

I think it was getting out of hand, and non group members were fly-posting ads only, so we clamped down a bit and enforce the none at all rule these days.

I've never peeked in on the marketplace site. Maybe that's a good thing. KJ

Thanks for all the "marketplace" advice. It is just one item and so I will try that. I didn't want to be bad and get empty chocolate wrappers thrown at me here!!!

Again, advise is appreciated,
