Question about flannel quilts.

let me say this about that....don't do it unless you have fray check. my daughter needed a 'sleeping mat' when she started kindergarten. I was already working on a Topi-Star, and it was about 3 blocks across and 4 down at that time. so I batted it and used flannel for a backing. I did use fray-chek on the edges, but I should have went over every single stitch line. The Topi-Star lasted that one year with constant restitching, then I took the flannel off, added more blocks and turned it into a full size quilt, with a good sturdy cotton backing. If I had used a 5/8 seam (as my mom suggested) I probably wouldn't have had any problems. but my whole entire response was 'mom this is quilting, you know sewing' so of course, she chose not to disclose what she knew about flannel until I was completely red faced. I know flannel is fickle and needs to be treated well. and that's all I know about that........now.
