Fons and Porter are only on Public Television (not cable) to my knowledge and the show is called Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting.

The only other quilitng show that I know of is Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson. Those are all reruns (since your new to quilting that won't matter) and are on DIY, I believe. The status of the show is unknow. It was canceled by HGTV, but then they changed it a bit to say that reruns would be run til I thought the first of the year. By the way it sounds it is still on (don't get that chanel so don't know personally), but don't be suprised if it dissapears from the line up in the near future.

Those are the only two I know of, perhaps someone else knows of one.

I think it depends on your local PBS station. I watch one from Tampa, and it carries Sewing with Nancy along with 2 other sewing/needlework shows each workday. I tape them to watch later. That way I can scan through the ones that don't interest me!

Hi John HGTV is doing reruns of "Simply Quilts", but I'm not sure how long they will run. Here in Seattle, in comes on at (yawn) 5:30 in the morning, every day. Our local PBS station has 4 hours of quilting/sewing shows, every Saturday, including Fons and Porter. That's probably your best resource, but it will vary wildly from location to location.

So which shows do you get, Patti? We get Fons and Porter--they put me to sleep; Sewing with Nancy on Sat---she is always showing something different both in sewing and quilting: ); and Sue Hausmann(sp)--she has become an infomercial :( She use to be good.now she is just another infothingie:( Am I missing any? I just let them record and watch them when I'm resting.

I just got this link on one of my other groups. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but it may be of interest to some.

" Have you heard the news yet?!! Yes, it's true, Alex Anderson is back in business and has teamed up with the best of the best (IMO) Ricky Timms!

Let's see...... we get "America Sews" and "America Quilts", both with Sue Hausmann, Martha Pullen, Georgia Bonesteel, Fons and Porter, Sewing with Nancy, Kaye Woods and Eleanor Burns. We did have one with M'Liss Rae Hawley. She was pretty fun, but she came and went in a hurry. Georgia Bonesteel's programs are all reruns, and Kaye Woods bores me to tears. I really love Martha Pullen - she doesn't do much quilting, but I love some of the heirloom stuff she does. It's a nice way to spend a Saturday morning thought, especially when it's really dreary outside. Also, our PBS said something about a show coming up in March called "The Art of Quilting". Not sure if it's going to be a series, or a "one time" thing, but I looked it up on the PBS.org website, and here's what it said: The Art of Quilting airing on PBS March 2007 See inspiring quilt artists at work in their studios. Discover how the boundaries of traditional American quilt making have expanded to an art form that now adorns the walls of exhibit halls and art galleries worldwide.

The Art of Quilting honors America's contemporary art quilters by visiting art quilt exhibitions across the country and through personal interviews with nationally and internationally noted fabric artists.

The Art of Quilting is made possible by the Alberta Kimball Foundation and by contributions to PBS stations from viewers.

It didn't have dates or anything, but it sounds like this is going to be something that airs on all PBS stations, so watch for it.

I gave up watching Sue Hausmann's (sp) show as Butterfly mentioned. It truly is a 30 minute infomercial! We also get Eleanor Burns's Quilt in a Day, as well as Sewing with Nancy & Fons & Porter & Simply Quilts. A few others have come & gone.

We have DirecTV. The shows we get are-

Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson (nearly always worth watching!), Quilt in a Day- Eleanor Burns (she's good but many of us find her annoying/irritating???), Love of Quilting- Fons & Porter (usually these are all good), Kay's Quilting Friends- Kaye Wood (yawn!), America Quilts Creatively (good), Sewing With Nancy (mostly constructing clothing from the ones I've seen), and Martha's Sewing Room (not familiar with her shows other than the ones with quilting). I have our recorder set to record anything with "quilts" or "quilting" in the program. It even picked-up and recorded an episode of The Simpson's! LOL Right now we are transferring almost seventy 30 min. quilting programs to VCR tapes for Pat on her hill. The hubby recorded and watched 6 hrs. worth today. (I was truly impressed with his dedication in helping me get these recorded!) He asked me a lot of questions about fabrics and techniques and gadgets that he saw being used.... maybe we have another quilter in the making??? VBEG!

Good Golly Gosh! Are these off of pay-tv or free to air channels? On our beloved free to air TV we get a total of zero quilting/sewing programs (only Better Homes and Gardens for one hour on Friday night and there is very little crafty stuff on that) and on pay-tv I believe there are one or two - four at a stretch sewing/quilting programs. Would love to see it but not worth $50 a month minimum. For this and the great variety of quilting magazines (I have non-regular access to about 4 per month) I greatly envy the USA. Totally and positively lime green. Oh and you guys have Peeps too. DH will be there in Feb, around Valentine's so I should be able to get some - - right? RIGHT????? LOL

Sharon, if you like peeps so much I will go buy you some and send them to you. They now make the same thing for Christmas and I think valentine's day.

LOL - thanks for the offer Jacqueline! As I said, DH will be there in less than a month and it gives him something to bring me back as I've (gulp) got enough fabric at the moment!!

We have no quilty programmes on any tv channels - there is a Craft channel on Sky but its all cardmaking, with a bit of knitting (how to knit). They seem to be more interested in crafts where they can sell you packs of paper and stamps at twice the price you pay in shops.

Thousands of programmes on instant home/garden makeovers, but nothing, nowhere, on anything resembling a needle and thread. About two years ago they had a competition on handicrafts on one of the Morning TV programmes which was won by a quilter. It was about one 10minute slot, once, and that was it!

As to Quilt Magazines - I keep looking but they are all priced at about £4 (fractionally under $8).

I've started to watch the 'Web' ones, but it would be lovely to see them on a TV sized screen.

So I just rely on you all, and books!

Many of us here in the U.S. do not get a lot of quilting programs on TV either. Simply Quilting is on a cable-only channel (HGTV); our cable system has tiered pricing, and we have the basic level, which doesn't include HGTV, and we're not willing to pay the extra $40 or so per month for more channels, because we don't watch much TV. Our PBS station does carry Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting. It also has Sewing with Nancy and Sue Hausman's program, but those seem to have a lot of non-quilting sewing stuff. I watch Fons and Porter once in a while, but more often than not forget to turn it on.
