Quilting on television?

Thanks to you guys, I've discovered "Simply Quilts" on HGTV, and have set up to PVR several episodes. Are there other quilting series on television? I'd love to check them out!

If when you say "PVR" you mean that you have a Tivo or similar "personal TV butler" you should be able to search the upcoming listings for shows containing the words "quilt" or "quilts" and see what's showing in your area. That's how I found the Fons & Porter show on my PBS station.

The rest of you (at least in the US) can search the listings at

for quilt programs.

OMG. I just did that, and it is SO cool!!!! I found something like "Kaye's Quilting Friends", so I've programmed to tape it.

THANK YOU!

Just keep in mind that a search on "quilt" will not find the keyword "quilts" unless you specify a wildcard, which I don't know how to do yet, so I have a keyword search for both.

...not to even mention trying to put the blessed thing into a hoop and then hold it on your lap!

Then your Fons & Porter program must be their "old" series, called: Sew Many Quilts. The "new" series is called (I'm pretty sure): Quilting with F&P.

If you're a fan of the show, you might be interested to learn that HGTV, beginning 9/29, will begin airing only one episode per day (currently they air two episodes).

Here's the link to the comments page at HGTV, if you would like to send them your comments:

HGTV has already cut our shows down too, and we were getting shows of

1999-2000 seasons and even though they were twice a day Tuesdays and Thursdays, it was the same show both times.

Now we get it only once a week on Friday. Rumour has it that they will not be airing any shows in Canada as of Sept. That totally bites.

I feel your pain!

Thanks for posting this. I just signed the petition at line 201. For the reasons I added to the "comments" section of the petition, I encourage other fans of the show to sign as well (and yes, do contact HGTV at the link previously posted down below). We successfully convinced HGTV to keep the morning shows playing five days a week back in the summer of 2000, so we might actually make a difference here too.

Where on the tv guide website do you type in the word quilt? I looked and couldn't find it. Maybe I need new glasses. Thanks

I just signed the petition. Isn't the morning show always reruns, or do they run the current new shows then also? I tape both every day, but don't always have time to watch them all.

I also wonder if it has something to do with her schedule - isn't Alex representing Bernina now?

In my area, both shows are usually re-runs. I estimate the new shows are maybe twice a week. I've been watching it long enough to start hitting repeats of shows I have already seen (in a little less than a year).

I read somewhere that HGTV doesn't actually produce the show. Quilt shows are subsidized by the advertisers, but they are produced by the instructors themselves. I imagine that Alex has no problems finding sponsors so her show should be profitable for her. But HGTV has limited space and the fact that they are going to discontinue showing two shows a day may mean that they have some new show that is looking for a slot. The new show may well be another quilting show.

Way up at the top of the

page is the word "search" that you click on. It's hard to spot at first, as there is lot of stuff going on there.

Nope, I just watched the episode yesterday and noted the title. It's called "Fons & Porter Love of Quilting" and is dated 2003. It's obviously a newer series because they have a Bernina 200 on the set.

Fun show! Those two certainly don't ever miss an opportunity to comment on the usefulness of a sewing machine feature that just happens to be found on a Bernina (knee lift, certain presser feet, etc.), but at least they come across as being sincere about it.

Keven mentioned his (Houston) PBS. I watch it on Nebraska PBS. They ran nothing but Quilt-in-a-Day for years, but this is the third F&P so far. No other quilting shows--just that old standby "Nancy" and whatever they call "Art of Sewing" nowadays (America Sews? w/somebody Hausman).
