Yesterday four of us got together to quilt. Well, actually, we talked, had show & tell, ate lunch, and quilted! During our conversation, someone asked why quilting rulers have arcs on them. Does anyone know? We understand how you use the different angles which are marked, but what do you do with the arc?

Ummm, Alice? I looked at all my quilt rulers and not one of them has an arc on them. What kind of rulers are you all using? Maybe a draftsman's ruler?

It's in the bottom row on the left. (Great ruler, by the way! It doesn't slip!)
I would use it for a curved quilt edge or perhaps layout for appliqué. Loads easier than schlepping a plate :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<
Dresden Plate? Quadrant fans? Drunkard's Path? (though it would be a little large for that probably. . The pattern would have to be traced from the ruler, rather than cutting round it, but it has the wedges marked and everything. . In message , Alice in PA writes
Well, I'll be darned... so it is! You know, I could see it being very handy if the ruler was CUT on that curved line, but I'm not sure how you'd use the curve otherwise. I like all the angles marked like that. I get dizzi(er) trying to figure out anything other than the 45 degree angle on most rulers with lines going every witcha way.
